Very upset
For you kind people who have been out of work for awhile beware of job scammers. I was a victim and it cost me huge. I would like to hear from any of you who have gone through the same thing.

I went to a job once that I was at the office in the morning, and went back to the office in the afternoon to find it empty. I have been to many job interviews, and heard many sales pitches by employers, and this is the rules I live by. I will never pay or invest for a job. If a job sounds too good to be true, it is typically. I never take delayed payment, I expect to be paid as we agreed upon initially, or I leave immediately. I don't mess with low training, high volume commission only jobs, if I work I get paid. On that note, for sales positions, I always made sure there was a base plus commission. I don't loan money at work, and I never sell a vehicle to a fellow employee. These are my rules to live by, I hope they can help you from getting burned again in the future. Good Luck...

I'm really sorry to hear this Karen and I hope you are able to recover your losses.

I'm not sure how you got scammed recently and I am sorry for that. Try to look at jobs on Indeed dot com; or career builder first. Never give out your direct number address, just the name of the avenue or street that you reside on. It is also a safe practice if you can afford to get a post office box and send all your mail there. It is safe for your privacy and a good practice. But, the cost keeps rising; they do allow people at the post office to pay for the first six months and then the other six months later on.
I don't know what type of work you do; but, maybe if you say what region you live in, i may be able to steer you in the right direction. i enjoy helping people in need. Don't send any of your personal social security numbers to anyone and never give out too much information up front. it is tragic that there are many negative people out there who use their time and energy just to harm others. But, remember---there are also wonderful people in the world too.
Make a list of every single skill you have and then, see what might be available for you to work in. Working for temp agencies is also a great way to see what companies feel like. FED EX hires office personnel; Amazon hires warehouse people for three shifts; figure out if you like working in the early part of the day; or if you are just a night owl. Then, those jobs should come clearer for you. Food is always looking in the hospitality field either in the back of the house or front. It is laborous work though; you could make fast money if you are a good food server and give great service (that's where you earn your tips)....don't gossip on the job and never talk about your past issues with anyone you work with---you have to realize what sort of world and work atmosphere is like today-----there are those who will smile in your face; whilst stabbing you in your back; so be careful.
Career fairs; do you like to dress up for work; or dress casually; are you computer or techno savvy? All of these things help people transition into other career tracks. College is a two years program and if you do well if you decide to go to college, most of the grads in a two year program go on to transition into a four year university that will accept your two year credits. There are short term skills training; career centers have free workshops; there is plenty of work in the healthcare field; especially as personal care attendents (PCA) or certified (CNA) and there are other jobs as a cook; a salad maker; baker; making pizzas, and all other places you may not have considered. Good luck

So many people are mentioning Amazon. I never worked there but they offer messenger work that just sounds too good to be true. I wouldn't trust it.

No I haven't I try to keep on top of that. If it's sounds too good to be true it is...this is my philosophy on scammers

Thoughts on EPITEC anyone?
Any strange or unusual circumstances with their recruiters? If anything, just to save their reputation I believe someone from the company, or representing, is involved in an S.S. scam.

I can tell you, if you are searching for jobs using online third-party recruiters like ZipRecruiter, Jobcase, Beyond, etc., scammers and/or hackers have figured how to use this avenue for scamming jobseekers. It's almost a waste of your precious time and energy to use these services because a good portion of the responses you get from the "companies" come from "employers/HR dept." in some company similar in name to the company you applied to. Then they, a) already hired for the position for which you applied and invite you to work as a contractor at home for them, or b) want to interview you through GoogleHangouts and it turns out to be some "company" in India, not the local company you thought you were applying to.
I am officially going to unsubscribe to every online recruiter I signed up with. It's like they just have people in their offices scanning corporate websites for job openings and then reposting them for suckers like us to respond to and then we find out that they are not real or in our local area if we do research on them. I feel like I'm just setting myself up to be a victim of some ID theft or outright bank or credit card theft by doing this.
Instead of these recruiters, I will now be using local hiring/employment placement services where I can see a face and know who is working with me to place me, and know that they have relationships with local companies and know the needs in the job market; and, checking out corporate sites myself looking for their career page and doing my own research. I think the third party recruiters are just not invested in making sure that they are doing what we think they are doing for us . . . the legwork, and some don't even have local or regional job places set up and that leaves them open to scammers posting as companies to then scam those of looking for jobs. Forget it. I've had enough of that. I will take control of my destiny on not trust these third party faceless online recruiting services where you can't even get an actual person to respond to you when you have been scammed or when you have questions.

watch out for phony mystery shopping scams. someone sent to me in the mail a check for about $2,000 with a letter instructing me to perform a Walmart shop and a Western Union shop. I took the check to the credit union and the manager said it was a fake routing number and checks printed from a home printer not from the bank! the letter was also in children's typing font style. the only thing I lost was money for taking the bus to the credit union to get them to look at it. Also beaware of Craigslist scams! I used to teach violin and someone sent me a phony check for a month worth of lessons and asked me to give part of the money to the nanny! yikes, this one was off of Regions Bank and was turned over to security. if you get any checks like I described forward them to the Attorney's General office who handles this matters.
I have gone through the same thing for the last four years since having brain surgery. Those scamming people make me want to give up. I have been trying to earn real money from home since my surgery and because I have short term memory loss, it makes them be able to scam me over and over. I have filled out pages and pages of new hire documents, been sent fake business licenses, been sent numerous fake checks, and somehow forget just enough to still have hope and unfortunately allow them to keep doing this to me. It sickens me to know this is our world. I'm just trying to support myself and my eleven year old son as a single mom. I'm by no means stupid either and I'm starting to believe I should be hired by the FBI to actually make real money online by helping catch these people, but it feels so useless that I feel like giving up everyday. But the scammers can keep doing what they do and I will probably keep hoping the jobs are real until I find out they are not each time. What else can I do...It's the only possible chance at work I have been able to find. So I completely understand where you are coming from and if anybody on this site wants to know if a job is a scam or not I would be more than happy to give my opinion and advice, even if it doesn't help very much. I'm so sorry this has happened to you and anyone else and I wish I could help stop it in some way.
