Over qualified equal too old...
So I have now been unemployed for 4months and the prospects are not looking up. I have always prided myself on being self-sustaining and now rely on the kindness of family. I moved home to help with a parents care so that it would not be left to one sibling who has done everything since we all moved out of the area. Earned a very nice living in the Dallas area and owned my own home before moving home. Closest small city near me is pop 199k and i thought the opportunities would be okay...i was wrong and the pay so much less... My background is in accounting and finance but no degree. I have 94 college credit hours and have never had an issue before. I just figure that it is.my time especially coming from someone who was always able to help family out with money to now being the one that needs help. And sadly, I know there are people out there that are much.worse off than me...so it makes me feel worse for complaining or venting. Does anyone have thoughts and or ideas that may let me know what I maybe doing wrong in my search? I always ask for feedback from all interviewers and am told ot was down to you and one other but my interviews skills are good and my resume is just.fine... Thanks in advance for any and all advice...
Hey Marcus, I understand what you're going through; it's rough out there for older jobseekers who might have a ton of experience but no degree. How many college credits do you need to finish? I mean, if you're close, it might be worth focusing on your education and finishing out just so the lack of degree isn't holding you back. You might also want to consider consulting as an accountant; that way you won't be beholden to an employer. Could be worth trying out around tax season.
