Dialysis Technician at Fresenius

no experience in medical field

Ok I'm 39 years old and have now come to the completion of hemodialysis treatment technician. The younger people I'm my class have all secured interviews or jobs!II'm finishing at the top of my class! I have applied for about 10 opened positions and no call backs! I have been self employeed for the last 5 years as a residental housekeeper which grew to the point where I could make ends meet for me and my daughter but always wanted a career and now I feel like it was all for nothing! I've worked really hard! Forcing myself to over come fears that I've never thought possible! The confidence I gain is slowly drifting away! If there's any advice to how to better construct my resume/cover letter to maybe secure a position! Thanks in advance!

perhaps you can volunteer or intern part=time in a hemodialysis unit to gain experience which would make you more marketable? good luck!

Animal Care Vet Asst at Andrea Lane

HI April. I know that it is frustrating. However, where I live, volunteering is huge. I know so many people in the medical field who have been hired because of their volunteering. Nurses, medical assistants, veterinary technicians, etc. I know that it may not be what you want right now and time is valuable, but it gets you noticed and it may get you hired. When you volunteer--in whatever facility or hospital you wish to work for--- it is actually like a long work interview. I am in northern California and a lot of facilities here hire from within and actually ask their volunteers first if they would like the opportunity before the job actually becomes available to the public...that is if it ever does! Think of it this way, the managers of volunteers are actually the people you would be working with. They notice and they talk. Been there done that. It is a wonderful way to save the company/hospital/facility time and money when they need to hire. It is a win win situation for both entities. Give it a shot and think of it as work experience and a possible job opportunity or opportunities! Keep your hopes up and your goals alive. You've done everything right so don't let anything stop you. You are your number one!
