Illegal request

Why would a potential employer want to see a history of my previous pay stubs during a job interview process? Is that even legal method of verifying salary history?

Well, there is nothing 'illegal' about them asking to see pay stubs, or even tax returns. However, there's NO valid reason anyone should provide such information.

Companies have long wanted to know what potential candidates were paid in their previous jobs. That gives the employers an opportunity to gauge where their pay scale is in the specific industry.

Additionally, it puts the prospective at a distinct disadvantage, as the prospective employer is highly unlikely to offer much more than the applicant is currently making, typically

All they should ever ask you, is for a salary range. That is it

Rigged system that's the logical explanation for this sort of action.

I was asked a similar question and told them to pound sand up their as@. It's none of their business. Not worth working for a bullsh@t business like that. Keep looking and good luck.

Hi Wil, I've never been asked to provide this information, I do not like hearing that companies are now requesting this type of information, it is becoming more and more common. Someone told me that companies want to verify your salary so they can determine what salary range to offer you. It could also be to verify that you told the truth on the initial application, but this can all be verified during a background check so not sure why this information is even necessary to a potential employer.
