Finding work in another state before I actually move.... is it really possible?

I am trying to move out of the DC area either to Ohio (family) or Atlanta (my bestie) and as I post my resume and apply online for positions in either locations I seem to get passed by. I always send a cover letter stating within the first 2 sentences that I am looking to relocate and can move immediately but it doesnt seem to help.

Now in DC they bite on my resume like crazy, I am a woman who currently is a Lead Building Engineer for a management company that handles A+ luxury apartments. I get atleast 3 interview requests a day. I am happy with my company here in DC but am ready to move.. Any ideas on how to make it easier to find a job in another state?

Including a local address on your resume really helps. Even if it's a PO Box until you relocate.

Hi Cindy: I went through the exact thing you're going through a few years back, when I was trying to move from PA to CA. I was applying for a bunch of jobs, but I wasn't getting any bites. I figured it was because my resume wasn't local to the employer, even though I indicated in my cover letter that I was moving. So I changed the address on my resume to CA, resubmitted my applications, and boom - I started getting calls from the same employers. I'd try that out first - let me know what happens!
