Discrimination
I was a teacher doing my best, never took a day off, they did not renew my contract due to the fact that they realize I had cancer. Right now I am in remission. But I don't have a job.Talk to a lawyer about the situation he said, sorry this is I will State. They can fire for any reason. I applied to different Charter's School, after answer all the questions, it show that you have to let them know what kind of illness you have or had. Diabetic, cancer etc.etc. Incredible!

Loredana Anytime a person loses a job it is unfortunate but there is a huge difference in being discriminated against and simply not being retained.
To file a claim with the EEOC you need to have some form of proof that the decision to let you go was based on your medical status. Unless you have something written or verbal that can be corroborated the EEOC has no basis for pursuing a case against your former employer.

Same here.... Don't disclose your illness.... for little sickness also you are fired .... don't understand why....these people think they will never fall sick in their life time

I'm not sure what state you are in, but you should contact your state anti discrimination agency or the equal employment opportunity commission.

So sorry to hear of all your troubles Loredana. Sounds like job discrimination to me...Did you have health benefits ? Most times you can take a leave, exhaust benefits, and still have your job protected.....Good Luck you still have rights !! Pursue EEOC and Fair Employment for a complaint.....At least let your employer know you mean business and wont be mistreated....

I taught in a district where several teachers had breast cancer and had surgeries. None lost their job! I taught for 18 years with Lukemia never took a day off. Retired in June 2018.

Firing is different from not renewing a contract. If they fire you they need cause. If they are not renewing your contract then there is no need for them to provide a reason.
What have they said, either verbally or in writing about ending your employment based on cancer? Because THAT is no legal. Unless there is more information we are unaware of.

I’m surprised at this because they are always talking about the LACK of teachers. If you are able to do the job they shouldn’t base your illness on that. You pray about it and watch the Lord work it out for you. When we see things as impossible the Lord sees it as possible. There is nothing that he CAN’T do.

Loredana I am so sorry this happened to you. I know it doesn't seem fair, keep your head up and trust in the Lord.

Oh no. This is unfair. I will pray for you too
I am so sorry this happened to you. Looking back, you probably were eligible to apply for FMLA, which protects your job. There might even be ADA accommodations that would apply. Did you have tenure &/or membership in your state NEA or similar organization? If so you may have more recourse or protection. Cancer itself is not a good excuse for non-renewal, but they may be justifying for other reasons. There are both federal laws and state regulations that may come into play. Good luck sorting it out.
