Google Hangout for Job Interviews??

I'm applying for new jobs, and I get emails requesting to to register for Google Hangouts and adding specific people to a list so I can 'interview'... Is this the new norm? Or am I right in feeling it to be a bit sketchy?

Google Hangouts is a popular video conferencing tool that can be used for job interviews. It allows for remote interviews, which can be convenient for both the interviewer and the interviewee. To use Google Hangouts for a job interview, both parties need to have a Google account on Google.com, a reliable internet connection, and a computer or mobile device with a camera and microphone. The interviewer should send a Hangouts invitation to the interviewee with the meeting details and the interviewee should accept the invitation to join the call at the scheduled time. During the interview, it is important to dress appropriately and conduct oneself professionally, just as one would for an in-person interview. It is also important to test the internet connection and equipment beforehand to ensure a smooth and uninterrupted interview.

Hi Abby, I'm inclined to agree with Jason on this. Most of the time an online interview is a sign of a scammer. Not always, of course, but absolutely more often than not. Keep an eye on the top signs of a job scam to make sure you're aware of the right things! https://www.thebalance.com/top-job-scam-warning-signs-2062181

Only scammers are using Google Hangouts.

Skype video chat interviews are becoming more popular, as well as online information sessions on global meet or one of the other online meting apps, but those are generally for a large group of people to get the information at once, for remote positions.

If you are required to use google hangouts for an interview, its a 99% chance they are scammers. Immediately stop communicating.

If you cant call someone, run away! If the only email address they have ends in gmail.com, outlook.com, yahoo.com, hotmail.com, etc, they are almost certainly a scammer trying to appear to come from a reputable company. Again, RUN! If at any point during any interview, you are told that you will be sent a check or money order to "purchase supplies", even if supposedly some of the money is a "sign on bonus", RUN!
