Is it worth going back to work for my former employer?

My previous employer called to ask me to come back but I’m not interested if the work environment is gonna be the same as I left it. I need some advice on how to negotiate this offer.

I work for an employer now that I worked for 20 years ago. It is a better experience now than it was then. Maturity and timing sometimes make all the difference

It depends on why you left in the first place. If you left for financial and or career growth reasons and now that same company is providing a more rewarding and positive financial and career advancement future, then I would say yes. However, if you left as a result of bad blood between you and the company I would say no.

Well, I mean, it is a paycheck, after all. If you've been unemployed all this time, take back the job at a reasonable salary increase and stay quiet about the workplace politics. If you've moved on and you're happier with the new gig, tell the old one, "Thanks but no thank you." Think about how self satisfying that's going to feel!

Going back to a job is always a positive action I think. You could just write a letter given thanks for the offer not mentioning the work environment. Another approach, if it is so worth it for the employer is he willing to increase pay and or positioning with in the place. Just an idea, its really all about how your quality of life will be affected.

Evwryone here has valid points to stay or go but only you know what you're willing to deal with. Even if the money is good, is it worth your time. I have been unemployed for about a month now. My old boss offered to give me my job back and i did consider it but the stress, aggravation and bickering was not worth the it. You left there for a reason. Just give it some serious thought. Good luck on whatever deciosion you make.

Seems like you have real leverage here- state your terms (including a much better job title/promotion), so that when you come back, you come back as essentially a "new" hire with more responsibility..sets you up for next move....DON'T go back to same position
