What do you tell them?

Hi guys. I was just wondering if anyone goes to a job fair if they already have a job? I know that sounds stupid, but lately, the job I do have the hours are being cut back and I need a second one. I am thinking about going to the job fair in Boston this month because I am having a hard time paying my rent. I am just not making enough anymore. So I guess my question is, what do I tell the company when they ask me about it? I am nervous!

The best time to look for a job is when you already have one. Simply tell them that you are looking for an opportunity that highlights your skills and experience. Good luck.

Penny, is ok to let them know you have a job already. Just say you're looking to further your career & you're looking for a stable job that can provide what YOU need. Just don't bad mouth the job you are currently working for, the new company won't like that.

You have to look out for yourself just like your company looks out for themselves. There is nothing wrong with looking for another job. You don't owe anyone anything. What is currently going on in your life ie: having a job or not having a job.does not need to be disclosed unless asked. Just go prepared, dress the part...no casual clothes and who knows you may end up finding a great Full time job. Good Luck!!!

Penny - Absolutely....DO NOT TELL YOUR COMPANY ABOUT THE JOB FAIR. Here's why. A company is going to do what is best for them...they are not worried about why or what brings you to the point of going to a job fair.....Your company should NOT ask you why you want off...but, I would simply state you have a personal appointment...period...enough said. NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS> and keep it that way. This is most definitely one of the most Pro-Active things you can do for YOU! This type of thinking is what we ALL should be doing to prevent where the majority of us on this site are right now...JOBLESS....Don't ever think you are STUPID???....(really hate that word)...you are very wise...don't ever doubt it. I hope you start thinking of this as SURVIVAL....this is NOT about the company, your boss, or anyone other than YOU!!! Keep us posted and good luck!

Hmmmm I would be honest if they ask you about it. I have heard that a company will probably be more likely to hire you if you are currently working.

I would go in there and get what you want. You don't need to tell them anything unless they ask. If you find a better job with more hours why not take it?
