The 6 second rule, I'm living proof that it works

A few days ago I was traveling through Texas at 62 miles an hour. When suddenly a white semi in front of me collided with one of those large agricultural tractors in the center of a 2 lane road. When they collided it was like an explosion I saw smoke, I saw debris starting to fly, I watched as the semi started to roll over to the left As the other tractor started to roll over to the right and I remember the 1st thing that went through my mind was, this is it I'm screwed. As a former pilot This was not the 1st time those thoughts had gone through my mind. So I applied the brakes, turned on my emergency flashers to warn drivers behind me and prepared for Any evasive maneuvers and/or impact. Luckily I always try to maintain a 6 seconds following distance , this was drilled into me over and over Until it has become a habit. Had I not had that following distance I would have collided into both vehicles and probly rolled over also. Luckily I was able to stop check on the agricultural driver and then help pull out the other semi driver through his front windshield. The black truck you see in the photograph is mine, not a scratch on it because of the 6 second rule. Listen to your instructors, listen to the safety department, they only have your best interests In mind. Be safe.

Thanks for sharing Danny Ferrer . I'm glad you followed the 6 second rule too! You're completely right, listen to the safety experts, and follow their advice.

It sounds like everyone also made it out alive from that crash too. It sounded like it was a real bad one, too.
