Distress Signal, SOS

I have a friend (more of an acquaintance) who works for a store that I'd like to get a job at. I keep checking the stores website to see if they're hiring but it seems like they never are, even though she's always talking about new coworkers. I haven't told her that I want a job there because I figure I'd have to apply through the website anyway but I’m in urgent need of a job. Should I talk to her about it?

Yes, it is always a great idea to network. You should let the aquaintance know you ar interested in working with her after hearing how wonderful the company is. I would bring it up to her at a time when she is discussing the job. Be ready with why you are PERFECT for the job. Good luck!

(willingboro,nj)Hi Sophia!,i'm Mike! i'm in urgent need of a job myself! i say ,why not? i don't think,it would hurt anything! at least you'll get it straight in your mind by doing so! (talking about it i mean!). you know what the problem is? it's summertime, first of all ,maybe the employers aren't hiring right now anyway! the other problem is ,there are more people out of work, than there are jobs! maybe wait til september, the kids will be back in school.the competition, will die down a little.! if talking for this job fails there's always unemployment benifits ,until you get back on your feet again ! well, give it a shot what have you got to lose?

When jobs are in short supply, going through the website application process is rarely ever enough even with excellent references and qualifications. You need someone on the inside who knows specifics about a particular position and what key elements your resume must have to stand out above the rest. Your inside/referral needs to be an exemplary employee (a manager or subordinate favored by mgnt.) More than just adding their name on your application. they need to pro-actively coordinate the submission and receipt of your application. Prepare the way with HR or managerial authority. Sing your praises (or call in a favor) persuade them to give you the job or at least a shot at an interview. so HR is specifically looking for your application when it's submitted. And finally, your advocate should be the communication hub between you and HR. Relay questions, concerns, replies from both sides. make daily status inquiries to track the applications progress - bring you updates from arrival throughout the review and decision-making process. (this final step is VERY important) Keep the pressure applied daily. your advocate can't be overly worried about being a pest. Just a simple direct yes or no question is often enough. Did you get Sophia's application yet? Did you review it? Is she qualified? Background check out ok? Will you be calling Sophia to schedule an interview? Should I tell her to be expecting your call this week? Next week? Getting a lock down on a date or time frame is effective with ethical persons who prize commitment and dependability. When should she be expecting your call? When will you start interviewing applicants? When will you be making your final decision? I'm not saying that you won't get the job without all or any of these additional efforts. Nor am I saying you will definitely get hired if you follow all of these instructions. It's impossible to predict what variants will interfere in any given situation.

Why is there only one store where you live. There is nothing wrong with applying to one place, but to magnify your odds try more than one place. What if one says no, another one might say yes. If you want something go ask, don't be passive about it, and if all but anything going in there personally gives you the opportunity to try and make a good impression. And if you are planning to be a great employee, and if your friend is a great employee may be your friend can give you some pointers that would probably help you make that impression.
