17 year old looking for a job (Not fast food)
I have been applying at many places and have either gotten no response back or declined. I have never had a job before so I am not picky but I prefer not to have a fast food job any recommendations? Keep in mind I am only 17.

17 years ??? Maybe you should give fast food A try. You can get some experience in customer service cashiering. Those jobs can lead to something else Sometimes we have to do what we don't want to to do in order to achieve what we want

Cemeteries are looking for seasonal ground crew. This is the time of the year. But it's days. Not sure if you're out of school. Pay usually starts at $10/hr.

Hi Noah hopefully you are still in school. If not go back and graduate from high school or go into the service and get some kind of experience. Noah your age is playing a big part if you want full time most employers wont hire anyone under 18 for legal reasons mostly insurance. You are to young to work in a warehouse or factory to get your CDL class A license you have to be 18 to drive intrastate and 21 to drive interstate over the road (OTR) TRUCKER. That what I do and love it. all my education is high school. Yes I graduated . I'm from the Chicago land area not to far from you. Check with Joliet Jr College and see what they require to get your CDL class A license. Try Jewel food stores in your area. It might be part time but they pay darn good for part time. Try Petco or pet smart if you like pets dogs and cats. Noah if you drive PROTECT your DRIVERS LICENSE what I mean is don't do anything stupid drugs or alcohol offences that will kill your chances. Once you turn 21 you could be making more money than most of your friends . I doubled my salary from 2012 when I was making 35,000.00 in my first year of driving a BIG RIG ,18 WHEELER that was in 2013. I was driving Over the road. Yes this is a good time to be in the trucking business. Noah this is some advice and suggestions at the same time. Good luck.

Try a grocery store. A bagger to start and move on to a cashier. They are all over so if you go on to college, can probably transfer if you want part-time.

Noah You can try applying at a local country club, or at a park district. These are places my son applied to when he was 16 and 17 and was hired. Park districts will be hiring for jobs open now, but will have lots of summer jobs open. Also, perhaps you could try your town's local job placement agency. Finally, the way we found out about jobs at the country club was through my son'd high school career services office. See if your HS has a career service office, and go talk to your HS advisor. Maybe they can help you with your job search. Good Luck! Cynthia

Sadly a lot of employers rely on someone with experience in the workforce. A lot of people start out paying their dues in the fast food industry. However, there are a lot of entry-level opportunities out there to consider.
The fact that you are 17 may hinder you from entering the workforce in a customer service role or other office-type environment. A lot of corporate jobs want their applicants to be adults 18+.
Pet Stores: A lot of places like PetSmart hire entry level for groomers (they train) and bathers. If you like animals that is a good starter job.
Movie Theaters: Working at a movie theater is a great starter job. You can work concessions, projection booth, usher, and more. Then there is the perk of free movies as well which is awesome.
Wholesale Clubs: Places like Sams Club or Costco are a great starter job as well. Costco pays very well and provides medical benefits for their employees. You might end up being a stocker or working odd hours but it at least gets something on your resume.
Start your own neighborhood business. Are you good with computers? Offer your services to the community on sites like Nextdoor.com. Walk dogs, mow lawns, do odd jobs around town. You can make your own hours, set your own pay rate, and get paid tax free!
Good luck with whatever it is you end up doing! Happy hunting!
