Carolyn is from Overland Park, KS and she spoke to us about how she uses Jobcase to not only to help her in her job search, but to also be part of an active community.
How did you find out about Jobcase? Carolyn: I just stumbled upon it. Initially, I thought that it was just about finding jobs, but I but I realized it was so much more than that. It also gives the users a chance to interact with each other. It’s a thread of knowledge. Not only do you hear about job openings, but you learn about different ways to approach the job market. Many times you find yourself in a place that is almost numb, and to have a place where you find people who are actually giving advice it great. Plus, you have have the opportunity to give advice.
What keeps you coming back to the community? Carolyn: I enjoy the interaction. I love interacting with people - I want to know what people have to say, and what I can do to help. It encourages me. When I leave the site, I feel good about being there. It’s something I want to do. There are not that many sites that interest me like that.
It’s also very empowering. It causes the user to change their mindset, from when they are bored and numb, and gives them other opportunities to come back to life. It’s what we all need - it’s enlightenment and support and sometimes that one nugget of information can help you in your future.
What’s your job background? You give great advice on the community! Carolyn: I have a Masters in teaching and Bachelors in business, and I’ve worked in both civilian and military spaces. I have over 12 years in QA in manufacturing and have also worked as an editor. I am an analytical thinker, and because of that, when I interact with people I don’t just look at things from one angle.
Are you currently looking for a job? How is Jobcase and the community helping you in your job search? Carolyn: I am still searching. Jobcase has has opened up the fields that I have looking at. I can approach my job search now from a different perspective.
It’s given me a fresh perspective and a different outlook. You get burned out doing things that same way. The community encourages you to change the way you think. If you are constantly putting in the same information from the same sources in the same way, you get stuck in a rut. It’s like listening to a dial tone.
The community can help you sharpen your tools, impact your search and help you find a new way to approach your job.
What is the best advice that you have been given - and what would be your advice be to members of the community? Carolyn: Don’t just scratch the surface, go deeper. If you are looking to change your result, you need to put something new in the mix, and Jobcase is a great thing to add to that mix.
