Big Fish?Small Fish?
This is a big decision for me as a senior career level job seeker trying to decide if it’s better to accept a job with a small startup company or a large well established corporation. The startup job offers more technical creative freedom in a cutting edge environment and great pay. The corporate job offer is an entry level technical support position with great benefits, a slightly lower salary, and tremendous growth opportunities. My heart is telling me to take the job with the startup but at 52 years of age I can’t help thinking about what my job options will be if the smaller company goes out of business within 5 years. I’m so grateful to be in a position to choose a career path now but I fear that option won’t be around much longer as I get older. Ageism is a Reality! So, should I go with the more exciting and better paying job offer of stick with a more familiar and secure corporate job? Your feedback is much appreciated. Thank you.
Wow awesome situation! !! I would go with the smaller one because of the creative opportunities. Corporate is nice but who to say they won't down size in 5 years . I am curious on you final decision good luck
David, if I were you I would follow my heart. The reason why I'm saying this is because the heart is connected to the universe and if you are having a strong feeling in your heart to take the job that offers more comfort for you then do what your heart is telling you to do. Perhaps, deep down inside of your souls core you are not happy with your current job as to why your heart is telling you to to grab hold of this opportunity. David, always remember that God works in mysterious ways because our footsteps are ordered by the Lord and I believe this will be a wonderful opportunity for you. Good luck and God Bless You.
Follow your heart David. There are no guarantees with either offer. Big companies go out of business or relocate all the time.
I would say go with what excites you!!! Too many people get stuck in something they feel is safe and then end up unhappy. If either one will bring you excitement, then look at the other pros and cons, such as benefits and environment.
David - Go with the startup!! Why?? "....more technical creative freedom, cutting edge environment, and great pay". WOW, now THAT'S an exciting, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to examine and bring to life your creative ideas and to be in a position to learn the most current ideas and future possibilities. AND receive great pay?! GO FOR IT!!
