Yes. It can take that long. I know a company that it took a month for all of the background stuff to be pulled. It depends on how in depth they are going. Is it just checking former employers.... references..... criminal background..... credit history..... etc. The more in -depth they go the longer it takes. It sounds like you expected to hear back the following day and have called several times this week to check the status. Be patient. I would call once a week until you have heard back from them. I say this for two reasons. 1... it is great to express interest in the position by following up, but you don't want to stink of desperation. If you express too much interest, they will probably low ball you on an offer because you are giving off the air of desperation. They know they have you so they will give the minimal offer. 2. You are not hired yet it sounds like. Every time you call HR to inquire about the status, it is time the HR person has to stop doing her job and update you. As someone in the position to push a candidate in the past..... I would be likely to hire the person who is calling me all the time. You have to find a happy medium. It sounds like you have already overcome the hard parts... landing the interview and being selected as a finalist in the candidates...... let them do their work. Checking in is ok... but not pestering.

I worked for a company for 2 months, Christmas help, then for me to get hired on full time I had to go through another series of 2 interviews. I called after the second one to see what the next step was in the process to get hired. I was told I would get a call by Monday because they more interviews to do. That was 10 days ago. Do I call back and ask again or should I just let it go since its been soo long?
