Sometimes with everything going on we get distracted by the simple things that are right at our fingertips. We see It in our email, we click on it and next thing you know we are in infected. They get our personal information, our bank accounts, and ruin our life. Think before we act, do not click on that email. It can save you from a long frustrating experience.

With that said, you can keep yourself safe by taking simple steps to protect yourself.

Key tips to stay digitally secure:

 

Stick to secure sites Look for the lock in your browser's address bar. This means the site is encrypted and harder to hack.

Set up email and text alerts Most sites and apps have an “alerts” section you can set for login attempts, password changes, and more. You can be aware of any issue right away.

Keep your apps updated Updates often contain vital security features. Also make sure you’re downloading from trusted sources like the Apple App Store or Google Play.

Use strong passwords Use a combination of upper and lower case and special characters Like This Remember to change your passwords often; maybe set a monthly reminder. Also avoid using common passwords, the same passwords, and words others can easily guess or associate with you. Do Not Click on Emails you do not know? This is one of the biggest mistakes made. You see an email that says you have been hacked? Look for misspellings, in words. “Think Before You Act.”

Think before you click or reply Look out for messages via email, text, voice call, and social media that claim to have important information on the pandemic. It could be someone exploiting the current situation. Be wary of messages about: • Research information about vaccines, medications and cures • Charity donations • Paychecks or loans related to the government stimulus package • Requests for personal information
