Job search

Good afternoon, Just reaching out for some pointers on how to get my foot in the door for some medical assistant experience? I have applied for numerous jobs but no really getting in call backs and I think its due to me not having a lot of experience. Any Suggestions?

Hey Carolyn, I don't know what your situation is, did you just graduate as Med Assistant, have you tried applying at Mental Health Hospitals/Institutions, they're always looking for people with or without experience, that can help you out some, some facilities are union to so look into that in your area, you will learn alot believe me and the pay is not bad either ..

Carolyn, print out an application and set up an interview time. Don't give them time to say no. Have an up to date resume and a god reference letter. Tell of your volunteer work. a letter from your pastor, someone that has known you for a while, a grocery store manager that you have known for a while. Wait until you get your foot in the door and then tell them that you are willing to learn with on the job training and that this type of job is what you are interested in. Call and ask the HR person for an interview and be sure to show up at the appointed time. Polite but a little firm. Does that make sense? Kill them with kindness my Mama always said. Just say your very interested in becoming a medical assistant and would like an interview. I hope this helps and Good Luck. Lisa Renwick

Carolyn, medical assistant jobs really do pay a decent salary to live on. If you love the medical field, apply and enroll in a nursing program. Most likely you qualify for grants if your income is under 45k per year. When we are hired by a company they require reading company policies to where by and rules for termination. Our lives are governed by the holy Bible (human manual) and if we do not follow the rules and policies... we are sure to be punished. Do not give up you "Faith," as serval churches have job assistance programs. Good luck as you will find something very soon.

You may want to try different format of your resume, try a skills resume to emphasize your skills verses your education or work experience.

Carolyn, Community Health Centers are usually a great place for new MA's to get experience. Try contacting a place like Alameda Health Consortium. http://www.alamedahealthconsortium.org/community-health-centers/ . Lots of great people and really good work.
