I receive phone calls where my information has come across someone's desk...insurance companies. I hear the following on my voice mail: We have a marvelous opportunity that I believe you may be interested in...As many voicemails that I have received, I know how to "weed" them out. I see that these jobs are popular to post but are not popular to fill. Why is it that insurance reps are the first to call and alway offer commission based jobs? #question #commissionbasedjobs

Insurance agents work on a commission basis. As a result you will be in training for 6 months at which time you have made $0.00 Then the next 6 months you are working trying to establish a client base after which time you are making $0.00 It takes about 2 years to build the business and establish clients to where you are making a modest income. Usually in the $45,000 per year range. Good luck.

As soon as I put my resume on Career Builder I started getting e-mails to the same effect. Insurance sales have always been commission only to start, and while Insurance is a very important part of life, I for one have tried commission jobs before and cannot afford to do so now even if I wanted to. Beth Melton mentioned recruiters, and that would be true as well. It’s hard to fill these jobs because they are not glamorous, they just do not appeal to most people. The majority of job seekers have not reached mid-life as yet, and to sell an intangible product that is only useful “in case” something goes wrong, or is only useful in the event of death has zero appeal to a younger person. These companies also sell financial savings products, but again, those of a younger age are oriented more in the here and now, not the distant future.

They are recruiters and they make money off those that are under them earning commission they are willing to hire anyone who will work for commission only.

Ora - It's all about the numbers. The jobs they are trying to fill are high turnover positions. There are some that jump in and do well, but the majority are not fit for the rough and tumble world of the pure hunter. If they find 100 that give it a try, 1-2 might actually stay with it. - KD

Yeah, don't sell Kirbys. Farmers has been calling and emailing me for years. I prefer not to sell insurance. Mass spam is just their style. The truth is your much better off with a hourly wage. Also, don't take "piece pay" jobs either.

I think its because not many people want to work commission based jobs. I've been tricked into interviews that turned out to be commission based.
WHY SHOULD THEY HIRE YOU?
