Frustrated Hotel employee!!
I currently work at a property that has changed in a very negative way through the years that I have been with them, (Since 1993) It is a Union house that I currently am employed at. I hold the position as a supervisor in the Environmental Services Dept. To make a long story short, I was told by my manager, not to help my people clean or succeed. I have been told this on many occasions. well this last time, My manager went as far as to give me a verbal and then tell me the next time I get caught cleaning anything to help my coworkers, The director will write me up and further disciplinary action up to and including termination, my question is can a company fire a employee for cleaning or helping and not delegating the work to her subordinates and if so where did this rule come from and how do you fight a rule when you are working in such a department??? or do you just look for other employment, What is the better solution to the problem.
Hi Teresa! I am so sorry that your job 1- doesn't appreciate you and 2- is scolding you for something helpful that you are doing. If it were me I would seek out another place of employment and take a look at what is out there. You don't deserve that treatment. A job can indeed fire you if you are an "at-will" employee. So take the time you need while you are at that job to seek out other employment. Wishing you the best!
