Would a OSHA Forklift Driver certification improve my chances of getting hired at a supply chain company?
XPO Logistics has a Material Handlers position in their supply chain division that I’m interested in re-applying for. I’ve worked in warehouses before but never learned how to operate a forklift but I heard this it’s a good skill to have on my resume even though it’s not a job requirement on this particular job description. I found a 2 day course that cost $200. It’s a stretch for me right now because I’m not working but I will make the investment if it helps me get the job.

Unless you are working or exposed to chemicals, I wouldn't worry about this position. I would take the FREE course sent to you, because if nothing else, it will get you ready, and may improve your income?

These courses are free (online) but you will need to get the practical experience. http://www.free-training.com/osha/forklift/forkmenu.htm

I don't see how it can hurt although that course for 2 days sounds expensive for someone not working. Is there a cheaper online option you can choose?

Hello Leonard, I think if that is a skill you are interested in having, then definitely do it! It could open you up for more positions in general. However, if it isn't necessary for the position you are interested in, I wouldn't worry too much. I think places like this are good about listing the requirements for their positions so they hire the right candidates.
Leonard, Yes a a forklift certification IS a step to making better money. Any & all company's look for exp. drivers when needed. The more you are willing to learn in warehouse operation look's good on YOU ! I know everything from stock & inventory, forklift, shipping & receiving (ground / LTL logistics) to Hazmat shipment's. What I'm getting at is it builds your resume. This $200 course is O.K.but see if the company it self might pay for it. Alot of company's will pay for your training, good luck buddy. Tim B.
