What am I doing wrong?
In a simple way. I am an emigrant, I have been in the country for 5 years. I was an engineer in my country. I am an intelligent person. I have studied here to get some certifications in IT (I got the A +) and I continue studying even at 55 years old. And here the cause that makes me think that something I'm doing wrong. I have tried to get IT work, maybe at a basic level, in some company. I have presented my Resume. I have even received encouraging messages from websites specialized in facilitating the search for jobs, that my applications have been seen two or three times, but I never receive the call. I have reviewed the positions for which I have applied, some or many requesting a bilingual English-Spanish, with only the High School and some industry certification, such as the A + and only one or two years of experience. They have seemed great to me, I know that my Ressume is not bad, on the contrary, but I never receive the call that leads me to obtain the position for which I applied. How to do it well? I work as an IT technician, but I do not earn anything right. It was a position I got when I did not have work and I accepted a very low pay, but I wanted to grow and I do not know how to try it anymore. Does anyone have a suggestion, a tip? Thank you

When someone interview you ,be yourself don't be scared and learn about the company before going interview. Yeap everyone have to start in the bottom, once you got accepted to work from company, and them proof yourself your better than them by working harder to get your salary to go up.

Hi Raul, It seems like it is the rule in the USA: No company want to hire somebody that did not get a degree in the USA. I am talking about professional jobs. I am 41 and I worked as a Project Engineer (Mechanical Engineering) for 7 years in my home country. Arrived here in the USA 6 years ago by the green card. I have a 5-year degree in Mechanical Engineering (called Diplome d'Ingenieur in French). Since I came year, I did a lot of applications for no results. Some companies even told me that I have the experience and skills that they need but they prefer hire somebody else. Now, I am going to school again to have a Bachelor and a Master's degree here in order to expect to have a descent job. The companies don't tell anything to the immigrants but this what is real on the jobs market place. Good luck to you.

Hi,
You should try going for an agency to start. They will search a job for you that is related to your field and work experience. However there will be no benefits like medical and dental. But nowadays if you are in IT positions most companies only offer temporary positions. Hope this helps

Hi Raul, I don't know where you live, but I have gone through the same frustration as you have--super background and talent, but over 55, and not getting any bites. I don't know where you live, but I went for help in Maywood, IL at the Job Center on 1st Avenue. After seminars on resume writing, cover letters, how to interview and building my LinkedIn page and getting GREAT BOOSTS OF CONFIDENCE, I am not only employed, but still receiving many offers in my field. It's worth a try---if you live in the Chicagoland area. AARP offers seminars and advice on finding work if you are over 50, and that IS an issue, whether anyone wants to admit it or not. Register on Indeed, Monster, Glassdoor, post your resume, and everyday you will receive open jobs in your inbox. Best of luck to you, Raul.

As I read your post. You appear to be very frustrated. Unfortunately age is playing a part in your search, and I know it’s unfair. My reasoning is you have the experience, knowledge and you even attended school to better your education here in the states with scouts honors. Just a suggestion, I would go through the temporary agency to get my foot in the door. I feel you will have better luck with them representing you. Here in the states to get into the larger companies, this seems like the way to go. Good luck in your endeavors!!! Also speak to the one and only that can make all your hopes and dreams come true. God bless you!

You're NOT doing anything wrong. Have FAITH that maybe they are ignorant and/or do not deserve you. Peace, Star -- BELIEVE IN YOURSELF. Take it from One who KNOWS!!! Try to ask GOD for Guidance, and treat yourself. It has been a LONG haul/road for this Master's Fellowship, trilingual and documentary award recipient. Please have Faith, as that is worth more than anything!! You'll See!We are all friends here, on this site. Peace Out.(Spanish/French fluency, from Washington, DC)

Walk into an establishment and apply, it works better because 100s and thousands of people apply online, therefore its likely people havent looked at your resume.
