Another Interview and more BS

I had a great phone interview today with a very nice recruiter for a job that paid A LOT less than I was making. I told her I’m not concerned about the pay. I’m looking for a job that I can apply my knowledge and skills to. I even asked her, what about my resume prompted you to interview me. She said it was extremely well written (it ought to be. I’ve revised it 1,000 times!), and it showed that I can do projects from start to finish. She said she has a meeting on Tuesday with the hiring manager and she would tell him how great my resume is and that we had a good talk. I could expect to hear from her on Wednesday. I logged onto my dashboard tonight and saw that my status had changed to Interviewed:Not selected. WTH!

That sucks. They want you to be upfront and honest but they don’t follow suit. They don’t know what courtesy means. I don’t see the purpose of a resume for us older retired people anyway. It just proves we worked 20 plus years but haven’t worked in that particular field in years and years. It has nothing to do with part time work minimum wage jobs. I’ve seen young people coming into a company realizing it’s not what they want to do and just quit. The older folks hang there and at least give a 2 weeks notice. They do not know our value. Still searching.

The most irksome part of your situation to me, is the fact that these people call themselves "hiring professionals" and yet they don't have the skill or confidence to actually do the job in a professional manner, such as speaking to you again and providing constructive feedback as to why you were not chosen. I find it ironic that she thinks "getting back to you" is posting a rejection on a dashboard. That is not a "professional" but rather an insensitive, insecure, "coward".

Many employers don't want experienced folks cause they think we need more money than young inexperienced people. In my case, they might be right, I am almost 62 and still need to work, I have a household to support and don't want to end up homeless or moved in with family.

I suppose the hiring manager wasn't as impressed as she was. Don't let that stop you .It's a numbers game just like in Vegas! Roll the dice 100 times and chances are most likely your number will come up at least once.Usually more. But all you need is once, so do 100 copies of your resume and use all of them. You WILL get a job. It's the same in sales if you make 100 calls SOMEBODY will say YES!!! Good luck and God bless!!

Recruiters will sell you the world. I don’t know how many times after talking to a recruiter I though I had a good shot, only to never hear from them again.

The constant rejection can be upsetting. I have held jobs for large banks and now I can’t even start back at the bottom because of my age. The interviewer always sounds optimistic but they never hire you. I would be happier if they are upfront and tell you the truth. Instead of the we’ll make a decision and get back to you. No they won’t. They should just say sorry for taking the time out of your day and that you are the a candidate that fits what they are looking for.
