Who Reads These Honest Heartfelt Posts

It's interesting that these are heartfelt posts that people post to express their dismay and disappointment about not getting hired for one reason or more. It could be that they are considered past the bloom of youth over 40, 50 or 60, they are minorities, they have too much experience or they just don't fit the work culture. Either way, when I was managing for several companies years ago, there was a link similar to this where employees of various companies would post their concerns very candidly and talk about everything under the sun. We later found out that this post was out there specifically to see what rumors were going on in the companies. It was the worst thing ever! So...who is reading these posts besides people who have not been hired for jobs? Probably the people that didn't hire them.

I believe it could be a training session to see what the companies might need to change in the way of hiring practices. When you have applied for 15 jobs and no one is hiring in your field, you begin applying for simply "Work." When you do that and you are overqualified, inexperience and age, they ask you this stupid question, "Why do you want this job!" You want to become a fly and puke at that point at the interview table. Or, the final question in every interview, "What do you hate about yourself?" Now I don't know about you but the person that asked me that should have been fired! I told them..."Nothing." I might want to look for opportunities to change some things about the way I handle some issues at work, but to hate myself is not a good thing. So, if you are a Manager, Supervisor or someone with the ability to hire, take a lesson from what you are reading from each post and be more creative in the interview when you have overqualified applicants that don't sound 50 or 60 over the phone and they may not have graduated high school with their graduating class but may have gone back to school years later which gives them a more "recent" graduation date which tricks the system for the interview...aaah yes...Then when they walk in and the interviewers are intimated with their poise, presence and stamina, the may reason you won't get the job is because the interviewers are fearful of losing theirs to you if they bring you on board. I resolved that problem years ago...I now work for myself and hire all of those great folks with the skills that I need in my business. Anyone looking for work?

Unemployed

Many companies are looking for younger people to hire but many either do not have experience, education, or even the desire to work. Older people who are looking have the work ethics to do the job. Just because we might be older doesn't mean we can't contribute to the company and those they serve!

Associate at Circle K

I'm looking for work, for the last five months I have been searching. I moved to Chicago recently, thinking that it would be easy for me to get a job in my field. I am a student at the University of Phoenix, work on my bachelors in Criminal Justice Administration, I already have my associates in Criminal Justice. I have lost all hope and started applying for hotel and restaurant jobs and still no luck. I am struggling so bad that my living arrangement is in jeopardy. It's hard to focus on school and three weeks ago my computer went out, so I have to walk 15 blocks (there and back) to an over crowded library, that don't always have available computers. I need work badly!!!!!

Hr Generalist at Human Resources Generalist

Good Morning, Over the weekend I read this article that addressed this issue. 76% of job seekers say that not hearing back from a job worse than being ghosted after a first date. During my job search efforts over the last six months, I have experienced this first hand. Some companies were good at sending out a generic email saying that are they chose a different candidate, not moving forward with you and while reading an email of this fashion is disappointing because, not hearing anything at all is so much worse. I don't understand how large corporations that use applicant tracking systems wont incorporate sending out an email once the person has been eliminated from the interview phase. After reading this article, I interviewed for a large hospital chain in June. During the phone interview, 1st and 2nd interview if I emailed them I got an immediate response. I followed up a week after the interview, sent two emails and no one has responded. I am going to send a letter to the corporate office indicating this experience because I firmly believe they need to take a look at how their are treating potential employees. The minute any company reaches out to you, a relationship is forming and to show such disrespect toward the candidates should not be acceptable. I don't know if my letter is going to make a difference but I hope they will review their strategy and stop treating candidates in this way.
