Everyone needs to watch this video, it amazes me because I am going through this myself. I sometimes feel like I have exhausted all possible roads, need to reinvent myself. There is definitely discrimination against my generation when it comes to job hunting

For those who may not truly understand Age Discrimination. The Age Discrimination Act of 1975 prohibits discrimination on the basis of age in programs and activities receiving federal financial assistance. The Act, which applies to all ages, permits the use of certain age distinctions and factors other than age that meet the Act's requirements. The Age Discrimination Act is enforced by the Civil Rights Center.

The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA) protects certain applicants and employees 40 years of age and older from discrimination on the basis of age in hiring, promotion, discharge, compensation, or terms, conditions or privileges of employment. The ADEA is enforced by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).

I was laid off when I turned 55. I was also fortunate enough to be hired into a contractor position several months later. Is it a struggle? You better believe it as the contractor position pays less than half of what I was earning as a salaried employee. Can I afford benefits through my employer? Nope. Am I looking for something that pays better and isn't a contractor position? Yep. I stopped counting the number of positions I've applied for, and the ones that do respond it's usually with something along the lines of, "In spite of your impressive resume and your superior qualifications we've decided not to proceed." Then, I also get the ones who will call. We get through some of the pleasantries and then they ask, "So, when did you graduate from high school?" My response? "I don't see what bearing that has on my ability to perform the duties of the position I've applied for." Why? Because when a potential employer asks a question like like that it's a way for them to get a better feel for how old you are and THAT is age discrimination.

It seems that everyone faces the sad fact that all over companies seek the least qualified people who they hire and train so they can barely do their jobs and in that way they try to find and keep cheap labor that is "trapped" by limited competency. Younger people will beat their bodies and live lives that harm themselves while companies get rich off their cheap labor. They will then repeat this again at another company until they get older and then they will be surprised when no one wants them anymore in favor of the "younger" generation.

Okey dokey... I'm 62 F/T employed at hospital. So it's not impossible. Yes it's difficult. Meanwhile think outside the box. Deliver newspapers. Apply for courier jobs. Go to tech school & train in phlebotomy or security guard. Spare 4 hours to volunteer at hospital, hospice, ALF, nursing home, school and then after a small period of time to prove ur loved, respected etc apply for job within. Apply for foot in door low totem pole job like dietary, housekeeping, floor tech & work & apply at appropriate time for another job. Goodwill is a great resource they've help thousands to get jobs, hold job fairs. That BTW is how I got the job I have now. THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX.
