How to handle the limbo
Recently, I applied for a software testing position through an agency. The interview went VERY well from my view as well as the feedback that the company gave to the agency. They also sent me an assessment to demonstrate my skills which I have been told is under review.
Nearly a business week has passed with no update from the client. They have not officially declined me but, at this point, have not even provided an update as to when they will make a decision.
I am a firm believer in playing the squeaky wheel as well as the adage that "If you can't win them over, wear them down." I won't breach agency by reaching out to the client directly.
My question is, as a general rule, how do you deal with the limbo stating of waiting for a status update? If I had a date range or a rejection, it would be easier to move on. How do those of you in the community handle this limbo state?

Have you called them to follow up on the status of everything?
Shane, I often find myself in the same place and asking myself the same question after a successful interview. The turn time could take months in some cases depending on a number of variables the decision makers and hiring personnel may be weighing in on. I think you should use the temp agency as the first follow-up contact in this case because they should have stronger contacts and working relationships at the company that they can reach out to and get clear and unedited information on your candidacy status for the job. I agree, be persistent without appearing too desperate. I’ve gotten into the habit of asking about specific follow-up expectations and collecting direct contact information (business cards) immediately after the interview to make sure I have a number or email of someone I can follow up with no matter how well I perceive the outcome of the interview. I hope you get good news soon. Keep me posted.
