Need some help
I have posted before but since this is a Computer Science and Game Development group, I would like some help. I went on the interview for a company and after the interview I gave them my references. I follow up and they say they would make and anticipation hiring decision on the week of July 17. 2 weeks later I follow up and the company response was We’re in the process of hiring a senior security engineer that will be assuming the hiring responsibilities of technical personnel. We are anticipating the need for additional resources soon and I’ll be sure to share with him your information and details of our interview a few weeks back to give you a chance when there are open positions. I would like to ask people in this group, does this mean I didn't get the position that applied for or they just holding off on hiring. Some people said to follow up or send a thank you email. If I did follow up, what do I say and if I send a thank you email, do I send it as though the position was filled? Any suggestion or idea.

Send a thank u email for the interview but add that u would like clarification stating if u were hired or not or are they looking to have u fill another position.

Well I got an updated on the position but I am not sure if its a bad or good thing.

At this point I would suggest following up every other week. Check the company's career site to find if the position is still posted and if it have a new or expired post end date. Also, check how long the company holds an applicant's application information to make sure your online app isn't expired. I would guess one of the first action items for the new Senior role is hiring a staff so definitely keep this job on your radar.

Hi Justin, It sounds like they're in the process of hiring the person who will be responsible for recruiting and the technical personnel or the position you're applying for. In other words, they need to hire your boss before they can hire you. Based on this info I would expect another round of interviews to follow once the fill the Senior Security Engineer but that process may take some time. Continue to follow-up with professional persistence but don't put your eggs in one basket. Keep aggressively pursuing other job opportunities until you get offers.
Update, I didn't get the job.
