Paid in experiences?
Just saw this article… and I don’t really know how to feel. I’m in a position of trying to get experience so I can build a career, but I also need to pay for life. I’m a single mom and being “paid in experience” doesn’t pay the bills. By accepting a job with that “compensation” you are basically already well off and don’t really need the money. Plus, doesn’t her company make enough money to pay people? Would you agree to being paid in experience? I don’t think I would… http://www.forbes.com/forbes/welcome/?toURL=http://www.forbes.com/sites/clareoconnor/2016/08/23/ivanka-trump-pays-interns-in-experiences-rather-than-money/&refURL=&referrer=#19ca71487a8f

One simple word. "No".

Hey Guys, I’m not one to advocate receiving NO compensation in a business environment but how does this differ from the idea behind volunteering to gain real life, hands on, work experience? It makes sense, from a business perspective, to hire the most qualified (skill & experience) candidate to take over the responsibilities of the job; especially in highly competitive industries. The opportunities to gain the experience required to get hired needs to exist and companies shouldn’t be cornered into having to compensate for training.

Unfortunately as a musician this happens ALL THE TIME!!!! Many of us are starting to stand up to that however, because it is our JOB! Here's picture that is frequently shared to try to show people that musicians and other artists should be paid for their training and time just like anyone else.
I agree with you. Unpaid internships are a privilege of the rich. I could never afford to be an unpaid intern--how would I pay my bills. The author of this article also pointed this out.
