Being blackballed???
I was "WRONGLY terminated" ( determined by the state), from a job I was at for almost 10 years. I loved my job, and the awesome people I worked with. I believe it was retaliatory because I reported a hostile work environment. Because I was WRONGLY terminated, I am considered "rehireable" by my original employer. Yet after applying to open positions, the two same HR reps that were at my court hearing, are sending me rejection emails for the positions I am clearly qualified for. Am I being blackballed??? I am beyond angry!

Are these posts and comments for real? I feel like a lot of these posts/comments are usually common sense or just completely out of left field and make me wonder how any of these people were able to hold jobs at all. Am I the only person who feels like this? Is this website just a scam? Or is just a place where people come to complain about old jobs or being fired? Because they also don't seem to be looking for current employment or moving on. Also, why would you want to go back to a company that fired you to begin with? Pick yourself up by the boot straps and apply to other companies or positions and move on. You're wasting valuable time and effort into a situation or company that you state had a hostile work environment and you went to court with. I just don't understand these posts/comments. Don't get me wrong I wish you all the best but just move on and try a new place that could result in something far more amazing and not involve a hostile work environment.

I worked a state job for 10 years and fired for reporting hostile work environment. Treated very badly. Ruined my professional reputation. It's hard to fight back in florida.4 years later I'm working for less but loving my job and doing my lawn business. There are some evil people in this world.

By the way,,,,the fellow job caster is Dave again

You should file a complaint with EEOC or speak to an Attorney who advertises handling employment related complaints. Most attorneys offer a 30 minute-free consultation or call a legal aid clinic in your area to see if anyone can assist you

April, if you were a Manager or boss and one of your employee report you work place as hostile, unsafe condition, or discrimination, would you be willing to hire that person? Probably not even though that person is eligible for rehire.
Also, if it was a hostile work environment, what difference is it now compare to before? I doubt the work place had change overnight.

Of course reporting a hostile enviorment is the right thing to do but are you the only one who considers it " hostile"?.. We really don't know what you mean by hostile. I would have reported it with another co- worker(s). You may have offended someone or the fact that you reported it,you may be the one that is the guilty party. I wish we had some more facts....

April,
While the situation may appear bleak, sometimes going back to a company where things went so wrong is not the best idea for yourself. Not knowing the full situation, I can only comment on what you've said. If you reported a hostile work environment, chances are going back to said company would be going back to the same hostility you faced before. Probably not a good decision for your health. I have worked in hostile environments that I too have reported and the result is just more hostility. The damage done to one's self-worth can be hard to overcome. I understand the need for income but sometimes the larger pay checks are really not worth the damages to your psyche and you physical health. Perhaps, you could take your experience and move towards a more positive position elsewhere. Sometimes the step down financially can lead to greater steps up after re-establishing yourself elsewhere. Here is a personal example. I left a job managing group homes (which had been a 10 year career to that point) I worked at the mall until I accepted a lowly clerk position at a health insurance company. During that first year, I was so broke and desperate that I called to see if I could get my old job back or at least be on the sublist to pick up shifts when and where I could. I never got a call back. It was devastating because I left on decent terms and was eligible for rehire. So I stayed with the clerk job and kept looking for other jobs. Within, 9 months of working for the health insurance company, I became the supervisor of the claims department I was clerking for. I literally went into work as the clerk and by mid-morning switched pay scales and doubled my salary as the boss. I had the right experience and did everything I could to prove who I really was and it paid off. It is not to say that I hadn't tried applying to other positions at higher grade levels during those 9 months because I had and the supervisor wouldn't give me the time of day. However, when her boss was looking for a replacement for my supervisor, I got my resume in her hands. She acknowledged the skills that I really had and gave me an interview. All 26 other people in that department thought I was nuts for trying because I hadn't been with that company very long and none cared what my credentials were. Needless to say, I didn't have an easy go of it but I stayed in that position for 5 years until I moved on to something different and better. Not everyone has an experience like that but it really did happen. I wish you all the best as you move forward with your job search.
Sounds like the hostile environment is still alive and well over there! Move on! You deserve better Be glad you are outta there You have graduated!
