YOUR INTERVIEW: Social Skills (Eye Contact)

WHY IS EYE CONTACT SO IMPORTANT?

Eye contact can form a bond and/or relationship between you and the board members assigned to conduct your interview session.

WHAT AFFECT CAN EYE CONTACT HAVE?

The ability to make good eye contact is a powerful social skill tool and is critical for you to move forward to getting the job. This method should be practiced and developed beforehand, this way you can leverage yourself while sitting in front of the interview panel. (Note: If you are “gazing” during the interview session you will lose points.)

BENEFITS: People who make higher-levels of eye contact with others are perceived as being: 7 Essential TIPS

  • More dominant and powerful
  • More warm, flexible and personable
  • More acceptable, likeable and approachable
  • More qualified, skilled, competent, and valuable
  • More trustworthy, honest, and sincere
  • More confident and emotionally stable
  • More open, candid, forthcoming and poise

Being able to look the board members in the "eyes" and capture their gaze is a skill that must be performed with precision. This can help you communicate your thoughts, pitch and overall platform to manage your duties and responsibilities in a timely manner.
