No degree required?
I'm taking a little break from college so I've been looking for some admin jobs I could do in the meantime. However, it looks like everything requires a college degree!! That, or 3 years of experience. Is there anything out there I might be able to do before I finish college?

Without experience or a degree it will be tough to get an administrative job. You may want to consider customer service or sales related ex: insurance they are always looking to recruit candidates. If you had the work experience it is possible you can still land a job without a degree in the administrative field, but you must have a great work history/ethics to back it up, Over the last 8 years companies are now asking for a degree/stellar work history so it is becoming even more challenging. Maybe while looking for a job take free online training courses to build your skill-set up. Good Luck.

Look for internships or training jobs. They are designed for you but be honest with youself about taking something like that. And keep your interest area as local as possible. The experience will always be relevant.

Go work in an area of interest. Start at the bottom and stay IN SCHOOL Dr.Tatiana Gibson .Although it may be one class at a time. You can do it.

Fast food, janitorial, school cafeteria attendant... Look at.school system jobs that don't require a degree in your area like bus drivers....movie theatre...movie extra. All I can think of right now

Tatiana, Nothing wrong in looking for a job, while you check your breath. When you look, put on you job application, what you are studying and how it relates to what, they are looking for. No need to advise, your taking a break from school, as it relates to the job and when you graduate, you will work for them. Hopefully helps

I admit that I'm a dinosaur, but when I graduated HS where I majored in Business Prep, I was hired before I even graduated by a very large company based on my grades alone. That was when you had to have shorthand and take dictation, which is outdated today. But I digress.....I wanted to say that losing my job after 18 years out of the job market, I was shocked at how many companies are requiring a degree to be an admin assistant. It is totally ridiculous, but because of the current job market, they can ask for anything and everything and get away with it. And even though they expect you to know everything, they want to pay $10.00/hr. I had posted in the past that I recently found some pay stubs from the 1970's and I was making that much money then! This country is in the toilet and it doesn't seem like there will be an end to it anytime soon. I'm so glad that I'm not a new graduate at this time in history.

Hello Tatiana You might try and start your own business. We have a strip/wax and cleaning service business, we will do what people don't want to do. Get into the service business beats retail all over. :)

Absolutely !!! Medical Transcription !!! You can even do it from home. NO JOKE. You can do overflow work as a private contractor and write off the cost of equipment as a business expense. You can pick the work off of their boards and the pay is stated up front !!! The time you drive to and from work you could make 50-60 bucks at home. They just want the work done correct and in a timely manner. Think and work outside the box folks OR work at Jack N The Box ....... Your choice. Look it up ..... See for yourself. Don't let the old way of doing stuff mold you into the same old same old that your parents had to do. Doctors don't want to do it and they don't want to pay and employ someone for 30,000 a year or more either. They pay you flat rate and you claim your own taxes using Quickbooks Business Software/MileIQ/Receipts for equipment. YES even the laptop and scanners, ink, postage if needed ..... Get outta here and look it up dammit !!! Go !!! Be the envy of your friends quickly !!! P.S. Knowing your location will help you far more than a statement on here alone. Use your resources and get further. Location Location Location PLEASE. How can we truly help without the right info ???

Two ways around this, either try for temp work, or try working for a really small company to gain the experience you lack.
Try temp agencies around your area, they are flexible and really make sure they aline you with the right company. Take a look at Robert Half!
