Fitness world

I’ve paid HUNDREDS of dollars for tests, training and certifications. I’ve set up a blog. I feel like I’ve gone on 50 different interviews at gyms and studios for group exercise and personal training jobs, and always have been told NO. How the heck am I supposed to start building my business if no one will give me the opportunity? And I REFUSE to hear anything about shakes or wraps… because that’s NOT why I chose this industry.

Kinda sounds like the building has already begun. All you need is one "yes". If you do nothing else, continue doing what you've been doing, just get better at it. Identify your areas of opportunity and develop them. Given your chosen occupation or industry interests, it helps to be the product you want to sell. A work in progress is always acceptable. Others may tell you otherwise. Know otherwise. Confidence matters!

Michella, Apply for a federal grant from the government or money from the small business bureau in your area. If anyone asks you to put money up front it is a scam and move on. The government has loads of small business grants that they want to give away.. I had a friend who used these two facilities and she got her money. Google can be your friend or even the Yellow pages. Good luck in the fitness world . Everyone wants to work out . Lisa Renwick

The sports medicine industry is a crossover between fitness and physical therapy. Perhaps there would be a place for you as a certified Trainor within the more medical side of train8ng. The results you would get are different than a gym atmosphere. You would be changing lives of people who have lost mobility and need to get it back after, trauma, surgery or stroke. Physical therapy and Occupational therapy also utilize the strengths of certified trainors. Just a thought. I'm a nurse and have seen wonderful results from people just like you who are skilled and knowledgeable who have the drive to help others continue to reach their goals.

Try to sell your services to individuals. I paid a personal trainer $300 for 12 sessions. And she had lots of clients. She didn't work for any gym. She also did fit camps at the local parks, which are FREE to use. All the clients bought to the park was mats and hand weights. I wouldn't worry about working for anyone if I were you. You'd just have to focus on marketing.

Hi Michaella, Is there a rec center near you that you could easily offer low-cost classes to get your name out there? I've seen fitness instructors offering classes in parks, outdoor gyms as well as community centers to get their names out there and referrals for when they are applying to gyms.

Hey Michaella, Have you tried getting your foot in the door as a front desk job first then working your way into fitness training? That's a real competitive industry right now. There are so many people out there with online certifications claiming to be pro's. Fitness center owners are real cautious with whom they bring on for insurance purposes. It takes time to build your brand.

Have you tried your local rec department? Sometimes thats a nice place to get a start and a following around your workouts - then when you talk to gyms, you can talk about how many people come to your classes already!

Ugh, that’s frustrating. The fitness world is super competitive. I’ve seen a lot of people start off with YouTube channels or Snapchat accounts, to show off some of their workouts. Have you tried utilizing social media to gain clients of your own, without a gym?
