Should I wait?

I need advice on what to do. It's not too much of a big deal at this point since I'm probably just letting my anxiety get the best of me. I submitted my application for the courtesy clerk position at Ralphs with a recommendation from a manager that already works for Ralphs. I got emailed the next day asking to call them for a phone interview/screening. I passed and was told to meet for an interview the next morning at 11:00 am. As soon as I got there, I was told that the woman supposedly interviewing me was in another meeting and that she tried calling me that morning to let me know to come back another time. (I didn't receive any phone calls, voicemails or messages). I was extremely frustrated but luckily I was able to speak with another manager. The interview went really, really well (in my opinion). I feel that I've given every possible advantages that I could over any other candidate. I'm 23 years old (16 yr olds at the very least can apply for this job), I've just recently graduated with a bachelor's degree, I've had over 2 years of work experience that could benefit me for this position at Ralphs. Plus at the end of the interview, the manager shook my hand firmly, gave me a genuine smile and said "I really liked you. You seemed very personable which is what we're looking for. And I'll put in a good word for you and let my boss know." He said they would call me back in a couple of days to let me know if I've gotten the job or not, and I left the interview satisfied and confident. But now it's almost the end of day two, and if I don't get a call back by the end of today, should I call them tomorrow or would that be too soon and make me look desperate? I know the golden rule is to wait at least one or two weeks after the interview. I just need reassurance and positive vibes. I know it's a job at Ralphs, but a job is a job and I NEED this job. What should do? Thanks!

Hi, Richere! I completely understand how you feel! When I graduated from college I felt totally desperate and unprepared for the job market. It can feel overwhelming, but we're here to support you! What you'll want to do is send a quick email letting the hiring manager know that you really enjoyed your interview. Thank the person who interviewed you for their time and express your excitement for this opportunity. If you have other interviews after this one you'll want to send that email right when you get home from your interview. This does two things: It lets your interviewer know what you left the interview feeling positively and it keeps the channel of communication open. If your interviewer knows that you're approachable and responsive, they will be more likely to contact you if they have any updates. After you've sent that email, wait a week from the date of your interview. If you haven't heard anything via email or phone, give the interviewer a quick call. Remind them who you are, when you interviewed and reinforce that you're very excited to hear any news about your candidacy. With any luck these things combined with your stellar interview performance will help you land the job! So take a few deep breaths and start drafting that email. Best of luck!
