Who will be the leaders we need...?
As difficult as it is for many, as imbalanced as it may be, this is the strongest our economy gets. So.. if we can't deal with real problems like homelessness, when the economy is strong - just imagine the repercussions as the economy gets to a weaker part of the cycle. We should all take time to search for courageous public servants in this election cycle - and reward them with our time and votes. There are things WE can do. And it starts with our duties as citizens.
We are coming up on an important election. Yes, the presidential, but there are equally important ones that we can all focus upon that will likely yield more meaningful outcomes for our time/attention - these are our local and state elections in which we choose officials who do so much that impact us so closely. As Jefferson said: "The government closest to the people serves the people best" .
It's important for us to tune into the local elections and it's important to reward principled, courageous public servants. For my own part, I am not so concerned about the letter next to their name - d, or r, or i. I am searching for candidates of Integrity and courage. And candidates that are smart, self aware, cognitive and coalition building. Because real solutions to real problems are never magical - they are always hard choices and balancing of perspectives and resources, and need objective principled eyes to do so effectively. Our country and local communities deserve this - I believe these people are out there, but it will take democracy to work -we need to pay attention, identify them, and then help them.
And, when we do - then we might find the solutions to important issues like homelessness. Solutions that bring compassion to the homeless with respect for taxpayers and communities as well. These are solvable problems when one harnesses principles and courage, but - as difficult as this will be - they are going to be a lot easier to solve with a decent/growing economy than they will be when we stall or recede.. Now is the time! #StrongerTogether includes political leadership as well and its all our responsibility in a democracy to help make this happen.
