Give up or not to give up
Here's another pickle I need help with. I worked for a year at a medical office and it's on my resume. I CANNOT land a job offer. I am working with someone to help me interviewing. Rejection after rejection starts to eat away after a while. I'm now working two part time jobs. My pickle? I asked someone to do a reference check for me at my receptionist job. HE WON'T CALL THEM BACK! Could this be hurting me? What do I do? I tried to email him and he never amswered. Please help.
God bless.

No, never give up, I had a very similar issue. If we give up what's the alternative? Always forward, keep us posted. I had to just tell the truth with my issue and the person in HR fully understood. I wish you the same turnaround.

Lady, you have a God sent husband, relax and give yourself a break! Volunteer....work on writing skills including spelling. All other replies are wise.

I know what you mean. I was working on a WI state program for 19 years. Because of a policy change two years ago the state will not acknowledge that I worked for them, I can not use anyone who I reported to as a reference even though they said I did an amazing job. I just thank God that the idiot Governor that put this policy in play didn't get chosen as Presidential candidate this time around. Basically I'm screwed. Thanks Gov. Scotty.

I think you should find someone else to use as a reference. The more you wait for him to respond it could hurt your chances to be hired.

You have the right to refuse them as a reference due to personal difference's, which could also reflect some bad information that could damage their reputation . Don't give up there's always a way around an obstacle you just have to find yours, remember what goes around comes around, and maybe your being detained for something better that just might not be ready for you.

Find someone else in the office that can give you a reference. If no one will give you a reference take it off your resume.

Find someone else that is willing to provide a reference for you. Get heir agreement up front before providing their contact information to a potential employer. Connect with local staffing firms in your field of interest.

References are supposed to be your cheerleaders. Personally, I don't know why employers even bother asking for ref because people usually will not list someone who I'll say anything negative anyway the idea is to list people who will sing your praises.
Your former employer is just that--a former employer. I agree with some of the posts already listed---bbut want to add--alway ask someone where you work prior to leaving for a written reference. That way should the employer no longer be in business later, by retirement, buy out, etc...you have something to copy to give employers proof that employment did exist.
Good luck. Seek out Desert Medical Careers and see if they can help you. Also, look at short term educational programs to beef up your training.
Kind regards and keep on going forward.

Keep applying for positions. I have been on both ends of this story. Do not give up!
