Age and experience
It is a funny thought that we are so intense on trading experience with youth. I know and believe there are opportunities for both. One should complement the other. In Northern Europe, people are hired if they have 3 degrees, 40 years of experience and are between 30 to 40 years in age. Not possible and very unrealistic. This trend should concern all of us, not just the job seekers but even more, the employees and the great people with visions of starting their own companies.
I am a perfect example of this. I will take whatever job I can get. If I could do what I really want to do, I would work within the Educational Technology explosion. To do so and be great at it, you need experience. At 55 and having had a great career in software sales, I am being discriminating against because of my age, even though I have a powerful rolodex and have made differences in corporate America.
The real question is, "how do you do things differently to market your shill set regardless of what it is and what you want to achieve. Using social media is very important. LinkedIn can be very helpful. Jobcase is a social media platform and serves millions of people well. There is, however, something missing. We have all these great technologies in place, but it seems to me that no one has yet to put the whole package together from education at any level to employment. These technologies exist. Many of them are developed in Europe, but has never seen the light of day in the US. I happen to quite a few of them and unless someone is willing to invest in bringing these technologies to the US, they will stay where they are developed.
Using Jobcase and the millions of profiles linked to them, we have a great start. We have to approach the job market in a non traditional way and I would love to participate to make that happen

Okay, Peter. Do send me a copy of your resume, I'm working with a few companies to fill spaces. You only prefer to work in Boston, or would you like to travel as a sales person. Please let me know, this way I can have a better understanding of what you're looking for.

Most times, people are having jobs always been understood to help others in creativity to live and learn in society that portrayed the positive affirmations that we endured in life. These jobs if you can in America may have been able to give us hope for to obtain hope for and to work through this generation. In order to make it through society some more time in the workplace must be placed to get ahead and live in life. In this life we must understand each other and adore the teachings to strive to that next level.

Who puts thier age on thier resume? I don't. Anyone with any sense can get an idea of how old you are based on the content. I wouldn't have an issue if I got a face to face since I look 10-15 years younger. Maybe I should slice my experience in half.

Are you here in America Peter? And are you looking for a sales position?

Good thoughts Peter! The case of Professor s in higher institutions is a good example where qualifications with great age is still respected if you started and ended your career in the SAME Institution! No new people or carpet-crossing except for internship or sabbatical!

Peter, This is an awesome idea! I hope you have shopped this around in the "right areas" as we all know how people like to steal others ideas. I wish I knew how to help. Unfortunately that is not in my bailiwick. I DO think this will skyrocket! Please Do come back and let us, or (at least me) how it's going! I'm Cheering for you!!Good Luck! ¡Buena Suerte!

Hello,
Two things I hate are an age discrimination and disabled discrimination because I am 52 years old and deaf. Many managers really are such assholes to not bother to hire older and disabled candidates like myself. Yes, they've violated the federal law. Yes, I still am looking for a job until I land one, that is it.

I have been in our shoes at some point and was forced to make a drastic change in order to reinsert myself into the work (MATRIX). Take the blue pill sort of. I spent the last 15 years working for DTV in some sort of management position or another and after the merge with ATT a lot changed. At this point I'm considered (middle age) and today's youth are faster, stronger ie better by exposure and modern tech. Not to say I myself was not privy to these tools but unless you stay constantly up-trained the fight to stay competitive is a part of you job. Today's world has no place for complacency. I literally made a lifestyle change to be comfortable. Find a company that shares the same values as you do and go for it. The only difference is that they walk in the door with a degree but you will have both and lastly you may have to settle for less but the smart employee bargains for amenities not necessary just the money. It adds up. Oh well just sharing here.

I'm also in your shoes and had to make a big change to
As we get older ( I'm now 50), we should be viewed as a true commodity especially when we have skills that have been highly used for a decade or so. Just keep pushing through and things will display some if not much change.
