Still Willing to Work!

Since I was Fifteen years old I have been working physical jobs. Throughout the years I’ve even worked multiple jobs at a time. But as I got older I have began to feel the wear and tear on my body. Now only 32, I’m losing feeling in my feet and arm and have extreme back pain. The problem is all my work experience is mostly physical jobs. I need to work though and going back to a minimum wage job is going to put me in a bad position. I fear as I get older that this will only get worse. I need work, but I am not sure where to began anymore. Naturally I apply for those physical jobs, but I have to realize that that may not be in the cards for me anymore. Any Ideas?

write down what types of jobs you are willing to work and the industries you are willing to work in. If it is admin work which is a possible choice for you, my advice is to sign up with a temp agency and state your concerns with your recruiter. You always have a choice.

Cashier at Loves Country Stops

Well i know how you feel honey. I m 54 , but for the Grace of our Lord Jesus , i still have alot of energy . And there s a catch to my energy, only in the morning i can work good. i use to work nites when i was in my 40 s. Now it s day s only. lol. I would go for jobs that aren t so physical. And try getting plenty of rest. No job is worth your health going bad. People love to make GOOD Money, but at the end of the day, is it really worth you feeling old and tired? ..

Start training for other jobs. Could you teach some of the skills you've learned? Could you manage the logistics? Ordering supplies, figuring out timelines? Or would you like something completely different? You probably have more than 30 more years of work to go, so you may get to change careers a few times. Best wishes!

Certified Pharmacy Technician at Walmart

Hi Christopher, I did the same thing but, I was 38 and my body too was beginning to break down and I was getting tired of putting up and tearing down equipment and dragging ladders around all day. So, I looked at what I wanted to do and what I could accomplish and still make a descent living at. I went back to school for a short period of of time and became a pharmacy technician. I've now been in the field for almost 14 years. Just research the opportunities available and what you like and make your decision and stick with it. Good luck

Hr Generalist at Human Resources Generalist

Hi Christopher, You will need to do an assessment of your current skills and see what type of jobs you can apply for. If not you may need to gain additional skills that will make you marketable for other positions. Start thinking of what type of work appeals to you and apply for entry level jobs.

Maybe taking some courses at your local college in some business/office work or even some management classes to help you move into a managerial position in the physical positions of your expertise so that you can move up in the company that you are working for or in now?

Go to school. Get your ged if you don't have a high school equivalency and enroll in a junior college. Apply for grants to pay for it. That's what I'd do

Customer service jobs are a dime a dozen in call centers that don’t require physical labor. Just some computer skills and the ability to talk on the phone.
