Be honest. Taking care of loved ones is not easy. Make sure you list it as a PA or Personal assistant and who you took care of. You may not have gotten paid but it was a job. Stay positive in you interview and relax.

Your drive and commitment to achieve your goal in higher learning So congrats and Job Well Done You Go Girl!! Now for the advice, it is not helpful as far as using your Education professionally but it is good adv oi ce for using your experience to get paid. Experience that is of Home health care You have the right to benefits in the way of a paycheck monthly as compensation for providing quality home health care needs of a loved one unable to care as well for themselves. Look it up online and see what recources provide this pay and what you have to do or not do to qualify. It's worth a look and a try for extra income at least until this ageism miraculously disappears...NOT!

1st - Don't buy in to the age thing. Wear a current style suit & have your hair in an appropriate but current style. Show your energy & enthusiasm about the job, your excitement!

You'll have your degree & will be able to show you can do the job.

At 67, you may have your own insurance. If you do, & if the opportunity arises, you can mention that in an interview. Interviewers frequently bring up benefits as the interview comes to a close. I think it's a good thing when you can wave your hand & say "Oh, I have my own insurance." I believe it's the insurance a company is most concerned about when hiring an older worker.

People will also figure you don't have small children at home. Allow the interviewer to think there's nothing holding you back.

2nd - An employment gap isn't the big taboo it used to be. These days, people in HR are aware of that - BUT it is a true testament of your strength, dedication & commitment that you took care of your parents - not to mention keeping on to achieve your own goals once you had time to. Those are traits that will propel you on in the work force so I'm not sure I'd want to hide that. Those are EXCELLENT qualities you have.

The other thing, about working remotely - I don't have any ideas about that except if you can work for a year & let the organization fall in love with you, then maybe you can discuss something like that with your company. I know there's a health service called Home Instead where a personal care assistant comes to your home. Maybe you could do that in the meantime.

Finally, what a total inspiration you are. Congratulations on your education, Dear. The best of luck to you.

You put o. Your resume that you were a caregiver g FYI or all those years. No necessary to explain who it was for. Just put down caregiver for the elderly full time.

Hi, Overwhelmed Debbie. Lol. Not making light of your situation; but hope to shead a little light. I'm an 80 year old long retired professional; and hardly a week goes by that I don't get one or two job offers; and, I'm not even looking. I don't know where you are located. I am in the DFW , TX area, where jobs for seniors are quite abundant. For 25 years, you have been a care giver. In this area, that job would pull in $40,000 to $60,000. So, stop saying that you have a gap in your employment. You do not. I understand that you would like to find a suitable stay-at-home job. Again, I see many of these senior jobs posted frequently in my area. Since I don't your environment, I guess there is nothing more I can add at this time. All the best. Robert

I am sorry to hear about what you have experience but I find life situations are lessons. I do not have manage my own business. My suggestions are to try schools and temp agencies. You have potential and know that you can do it. You made it this far don't give up.

Debbie, although our age is definitely against us as we get older, there is still hope! There are many remote positions online; you could also teach at a university since you are about to get your Master's completed. I taught online as a secondary job for about 15 years; it was nice to have some extra cash. As for the lapse on your resume with regard to employment, I would suggest being very honest in that, you were caring for your aging parents. Employers appreciate that honesty and it shows you value family. Hope that helps!

Hello Deb, there are jobs out there for. Maybe you can look into the travel agency business or Amazon. They have remote offices that you can probably get hired for. Good luck to you dont let your age stop you

Debbie, I'm going to say this. There is hope out there. On Indeed.com and Monster there are some "research" position that will allow yo work from home. As for your gap in employment you have good valid reasons as to why you were out of work for those many years. In fact, some employers might find those reasons very admiral qualities in your character. Believe in yourself that you can do it and just do it. Apply until your fingers fall off. As for me I am 55 years old and I have two job offers on the table. I get to pick where I want to go. Take care...
