Eliminate Hiring Bias
I recently had my first job interview after giving birth to my son. The interview was for a part-time cashier position with a big retail chain. I was instantly able to establish a good rapport with the manager and I felt the interview was going well until my year and a half long unemployment gap came into question. I explained that the time off was due to my pregnancy and decision to be a stay at home mom for the first 6 after the delivery. He said they have had problems in the past hiring back to work moms because they leave the job shortly after getting hired claiming they miss being at home with their baby’s. I didn’t the job. Is this a form of discrimination for being a new mom? What could I have said to the manager to overcome his concern?
I was a single mom when they said that I will said sir I am here because I need a job I would do anything in my power this never happen but it's something happen I will try to solved the problem without jeopardize my job you probably would halve no choice to quit later but at least he will feel comfortable to hiring you
