INTERVIEWS: (No. #8. Mistakes To Avoid) Personal Hygiene.

READ THIS PLEASE! (Small things can make a big difference.)

SCENARIO: Robert has been searching for a job for the last 18 months. He's sent resumes just about everywhere online, and he recently got an interview scheduled for 9:30AM on the 12th floor.

"Okay, I'm about 10 minutes early so let me get this last good puff off this cigarette before I head upstairs."

It's not Robert's fault, he doesn't know that once he walks into the interview room, he's going to spell like a "chimney" or a cigarette factory. Are there NON-SMOKERS on the panel?

Some things others may not tell you. It's not good to walk into the interview room smelling like yesterdays [day old cigarettes]. As good as you look in your appearance, you want to match that in "personal hygiene."

TURNKEY: If you really need that last puff, always bring some breath spray or mints to keep yourself smelling fresh!

I don't smoke so that's not the problem I'm having finding employment; it's my age. I'm 74 looking to find a job to supplememt my retilrement Prospective employers have a legal loop hole in age dicrimination. Intead of asking the year you were born; they ask whey you graduated from high school. It is still age discrimination but it's legal when it should not be leagal.

Also, I would recommend not using scented deodorant, highly scented shampoo wearing perfume or after shave. They may be allergic and I can be distracting. And remember the nose is an organ that receives differences so if you put on some kind of scent you might not smell it after 15 or 20 minutes but it can hit them very strongly when you first walk in.
