Interview tomorrow...in need of help!!

My friend interviewed for a retail position last year and was turned down - she has another interview in the same industry tomorrow and I don't know what tips to give her as I have not been successful myself with retail interviews. Does anyone have advice either in terms of the general interview or what to wear?

Concentrate on value. If every question comes on how your friend can create value, and how that will benefit the company, that is the best advice I can give. Companies are judged by success, and if you can bring more value, it will build more success. Good Luck...

My experience with a retail interview is that they may conduct a group interview and ask you and the others questions that the company wants them to ask and dress casual or either black pants and a white dress shirt.

Alyson, tell her to wear something low key. Not to tight, nothing that shows to much

Hey Alyson tell her to go in there with her head up high, undivided attention, remain eye contact, and be respectful. My other advice is to hope for the best and expect the worse be confident give them the qualities ur bringing to the table. Make them look at her like we need her on the team she's the perfect fit. And pray there is nothing wrong with that and good luck

Relax! As tough as this may be! You usually have about 30 seconds to make a good impression depending on position you are applying for, business casual works! Be confident in your abilities! Good luck! Piece of cake!

Turn the conversation around as though you're interviewing them as a perspective employer. Don't be smug or condescending. Just picture in your mind that you have 10 interviews lined up and you will be choosing where you'll be working. Now take the confidence that you would have if that were actually the case with you into the interview. THIS HAS NEVER FAILED ME.

Wear casual clothes, no jeans and no sneakers. Tell her to let them know that she is available ASAP. Let them know that she can work any shift just so she can get hired. Once she is hired she can choose the shift that she wants. Retail, you have to stay on your feet a lot.

Black or dark navy attire. I always found this statement to excite interviewers in retail, "I have the ability to make sales happen". People in retail have sales goals to meet and they don't like excuses for why you didn't get the job done. So try your best to give the impression that you don't give up and you don't make excuses. Be sure to talk about accomplishments and don't say ANYTHING negative. Hirbig managers in retail like for yiunto pour it on thick. They like enthusiasm because it's infectious. Be very upbeat in the verge of bubbly. And make sure to say multiple times that you enjoy challenges because retail is one of the most challenging work environments in existence. People think that it couldn't possibly be difficult to work at the mall and that retail jobs are blow off jobs but it's actually just the opposite and takes a person that knows how to stay upbeat in some of the most trying of circumstances if you want to keep your job. Remember yesterday's peacock is tomorrow's feather duster. Be sure to exude confidence in your abilities. Be sure to mention that you have business that you can bring with you. Clients and friends and family that you intend to bring onboard with you as customers. They call that "a book". Hiring managers love to hear that you have customers you're bringing with you. Good luck.
