Administrative Assistant Iii at University Corporation For Atmospheric Research

I was working with a staffing agency in my job search and recently received a call from them about a possible opportunity. They scheduled a phone interview which the interviewer didn't bother calling - wasting some of my wife's PTO to be there to watch the kid's while I sat waiting for the call. The staffing agency said she was stuck in a meeting and apologized and we rescheduled. Again, no call. Again wife wasted PTO. This time the staffing agency person took the blame saying he didn't send the interviewer the calendar invite and we rescheduled again. The third time worked and the interview went extremely well and received a call from the staffing agent saying they were very impressed and wanted me to meet with the 2 executives I would be supporting as mostly a formality. Three days go by without a call. I call the agent and left a message with no response for a WEEK. I call again and send an email to the agent requesting information on the situation. No response for another 3 days. I call him again and finally get a reply on voicemail saying he's been trying for a week to contact the employer with no success. A few days later I call him again and leaves another voicemail saying he's heard nothing - "she's gone dark" and there's nothing more they can do. I've been working for nearly 30 years now and have NEVER heard of such a situation. In the end, all I wanted was an explanation because it was obviously a place I no longer wanted to work for and to find out if I had done something wrong. All I got was silence. Anyone heard of such a scenario? Anyone have any advice on how to deal with it? Not just the employer but the staffing agency as well.

Adrian ; it’s not you or the agents , the client is an abuser of your time as well as the agent .

After missing the first phone screen I’d pulled the plug .

Since being on here I've heard of such negativity. Employers nowadays just aren't as professional or well polished as they use to be!

Hi Adrian, Well, I have to say this is a sad story, and I really really get upset about thing's like this. I would send the staffing agency a letter, I would send it to the highest person that is in charge there, let your voice be heard in that letter, tell them how you feel and what you went through. I understand you would no longer want to work for that company, and honestly I can't blame you, who would???? I would not let them get away with this, and if you do something about it, just think you will be helping the next person that they do this to. I really don't think you are the first one that they have done this to, but you could be the first one to ruffle there feathers.!!!!!!!!! Well good luck in what ever you decide to do, and remember it is there loss not yours, someone else out there will be happy to hire someone like you. After waiting so long, for an answer you must have a lot of patience. Take care. Yvonne

I feel for you. I am with 8 different staffing agencies and I have received leads and asked to fill a position and I did fill one position with a staffing agency, but the company decided that it was not going to work out on their end so I was let go. I was asked to fill another position with another staffing agency at another company, but because I was going to be out of town for a few days they did not even consider me. Its like empty promises in my opinion. I have played phone tag and email tag with most of them so I have just decided to go a different route. I got a mentor and hopefully his direction will help me in my job search. I totally feel you on this though

Sadly, welcome to the new 'normal' where rudeness and unprofessionalism are the new king and queen of the double standard reign. You, as the applicant are either required to be smart, sensitive, courteous, and professional in your dealings, but they are are not always the same. I have my own standards, which I try to keep higher than my clients (in my home business) and my company (in my pt job) which will always keep you above boards with most. Don't let it get you down. Keep your chin and your standards high and it will pay off. That, and faith in God is what has kept me going all these years. In personal standards, I "work for God" and my employer is the on site supervisor that writes the check. So far it has served me well. Maybe you could apply it as well.

Adrian don't feel bad I went through a similar situation but it was not with a Staffing Agency. I sent my resume to this Company and I received and email wanting to have a phone interview first, so I did that phone interview went well. So a few days later I received another email saying they wanted to set up a face to face. OK cool so I went to the interview and was interviewed by 2 persons for about an hour. They asked the usual questions I answered each question short and direct. Now at the closing she asked about compensation and when can I start and told me about paid orientation, drug testing, background check and said they would be giving me a call when they bring this to thee Manager. So with that all being said I figured the interview went well. A few days I sent them a thank you letter. Well it has been 3 weeks to my surprise I heard nothing back not even a respond to my thank you letter. I really thought I had that job! The Company is a well known company, Really don't know what to take from this, thought they were more PROFESSIONAL then what I received.
