Parents/Job question

I'm 16 and trying to get a job that's not babysitting. My mother knows of what I'm trying to do, but she says I can't get a job without an ID. But she hasn't taken me to the DMV to get that done, but I found out the reason why she hasn't helped me get any of this done... If I get a job she cant put me on her taxes.. Is that true or false?

Jada,

Depending on the state (which should be the same), your mother can still claim you on her taxes as you are a legal dependent by age. Most states don't consider you being an adult till the age of 24/26 (varies) aside from the common legal age of 18, but you can still work while your mother claims you. You should have a work permit if required by your state.

If your mom doesn't want to take you to DMV, ask a friend or take an uber/lyft (if available) to get an ID.

False. My daughter is 20 and I support her and she works and is in college and I claim her.

FALSE! She can still claim you on her taxes even if you're working BC you're still a minor

She can still claim you. I started working at 16 and my mom claimed me from 16 all the way through undergrad. When I did my taxes during that time I just had to make sure I answered yes to someone else being able to claim me as a dependent

You can get a job. Call your town/city hall and ask what the requirements are for under age 18 workers. Sime places require certificate or permit. Do you have a passport or birth certificate available? I wirked p-t starting at 16.

False. I assume you're under 18? If you are still dependent on her for housing, food etc then she can still declare you as a dependent on taxes.
