For the veterans out there
I was active duty for 7 years and 8 months in the Air Force and was forced to leave due to downsizing/reshaping of the force and only had 4 months to find a job, so I sprung to action and attended all the job fairs I could find; fortunately, I was blessed to land a job at the Port Authority of NY & NJ and started working only a few months later and now I've been here for nearly two years. I know it's tough for military members to transition to the civilian sector at times but I say don't give up because your military background could help you in many ways. Also don't forget to use your other benefits and the Veteran's Affairs as well-there are many programs to assist prior military members.

Thank you for your service James! I served for 21 years in the Air Force and transitioned into the civilian work force with ease because my leaving (retirement) was planned and my choice. I am so happy you have a job you enjoy and I wish you the best. Thank you for posting.

James-the Port Authority is a great job! Work hard-they will take care of you. God bless and thanks for serving our country. You go- James!

Thanks for posting James Aquino ! Your words are very inspirational. I've had a few close people in my life transition from military to civilian life and it can be tough for sure. But I totally agree that your experience can help you tremendously!
James, very happy for you! However ageism is also alive and well in the US! Despite 28 yrs in the USAF, 4 different career fields, 4 Masters and 2 Bachelors degrees, a new degree on the GI Bill, 10 years of experience in the field of the new degree and 2 yrs of job hunting, have gotten 1 interview! Finally had some family members tell me it’s okay to be retired. The fact is US Companies don’t hire a lot of veterans just some. And our Presidents, Congress and DID leaders make a lot of promises on benefits they don’t deliver on after they have been earned!
