Question: about a verbal job offer
On April 20, 2016 I was offered a 90 day temp to hire position with a Company through a temporary service. On June 16, 2016 human resource requested that I complete their online job application form for the job. I completed and submitted the form on June 17, 2016. On July 06, 2016 the VP of the department and I agreed upon the terms and salary. On July 07,2016 human resource informed me to take the company physical examination. I took and passed their physical examination. On July 09, 2016 human resource informed me that I would start working with the company as soon as the contract expired with the Temporary service on July 20,2016. On July 13, 2016 the temporary service informed me that the Company canceled the contract due to I was too efficient for the job. The Company did not hire me for the position. The Company hired someone else for the same position on August 14, 2016. The Company hired someone that is much younger then me for the position. Is this Legal? Was this a verbal contract with the Company?
Hi Bruce, I'm so sorry to hear about your situation. Sounds like the company pulled a fast one. Unfortunately, Tennessee is what's called an "At Will" state, which means they can hire/fire you at any time for any reason.
I'd suggest you forget this company and continue your search. Doesn't sound like they'd necessarily be a good company to work for in any event. >:( (that's a sideways, frustrated-looking frown-face)
