Is it true??
I have read and been told that once you turn 50 I will have a difficult time finding a job that fits my experience level and education level just because of my age.
I am starting to believe this as I have been searching for months and nothing. I am not sure what to do. I am to young to retire and can not afford to.

Hi Catherine. The more experience you have, the more money they have to pay you. Whereas, they can bring in a 23 year old to do the job net to nothing. Please know that I do not support this practice in any way.

Unfortunately it's true. You can't get a job unless you know someone. It doesn't matter how well qualified you are, they are hiring younger but at 50 you can't retire and you still need to eat...

Its funny ,i feel im to young to retired and for what? To sit around get fat, watch movies and get board....He'll No I still have another good 25 years to bug people at work Lol

I ending walking out of my job, because i eas an old lady

It's all about fit, going where I'm valued is what it's going to take. I like your story, thank you.

here in my city there is a mentoring group of older individuals that mentor those starting a business, there is also an agency that helps to place older /displaced workers. personally, I find it different working in a group setting with younger people. I had left a job in the insurance field that was set up so you worked in teams, I went back to being a school secretary, I am finding that when companies boast of a great or highly valued work culture, its code for cliques, and basically getting in where you can fit in. I know I'm not anywhere near retirement - but seriously am working on being self employed.

YEs it is true!!!

It is absolutely true that age discrimination is rampant.
But, it means that you will have to make yourself that much more valuable as an applicant to any position by selling yourself better.
Tell them and prove it to them during any tests or interviewing questions that you are more qualified than the other applicants by years of real world problem solving. Explain in detail of how you solved any problem(s) within the past jobs you have had and having any current training or knowledge of the current industry standards will put your resume on the top of the pile.
Go with confidence and let them know that you are the person who will solve their problems.

Maybe it's how you interview. Lots of companies know you still have a lot of good years and would appreciate your life experience.
It can be and even with all the experience in the world, doesn't mean much when it comes to pay. I have years of customer service and medical only to be told a position I've applied for won't pay what I would think I should make. It really sucks! I'm 53 and when I turned 45 I started having the difficulty of getting into a job I had applied for as to when I was 30 or 35 and looked to see if there wss anything else at that time.
