Women's Health
I am a Registered Nurse with 36 years of experience. I want back to school later in life after my children were grown and earned my BSN. I went on to get my Master's in a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner program last spring while working full time. I became board certified this summer. The opportunities in the Atlanta market are slim if non-existant. A few places I've found want someone with more experience. I currently work in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility with an 18 year history there. Unfortunately, our practice is not using Nurse Practitioners. I am working with women and couples managing their care every day. How can I 'get more experience' in such a tough market? I'm giving up on job boards and plan to approach practices myself with the approach of how I can help them grow their practice through my desire to provide professional quality care. I can also lend my expertise in working with the growing number of women with Infertility as people delay starting a family. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

don't know about Atlanta but the Philadelphia/ Southeastern Pennsylvania area seem to be aggressively looking for Certified Nurse Practitioners- maybe it due to areas many hospitals, medical schools, physician practices etc. - not sure but bottomline you may have to extend ur search beyond Atlanta - if for no other reason then to get the experience you mention in ur note. good luck .

Carla my last boss was a NP...... Now what the both of us think is that you've educated yourself right into Dept. Chair. or NP Dir. of Patient Care or even Nurse Administrator. You could pick a new specialty like Pediatrics, OB/GYN or something like that. Maybe Spine Care. But the NP still have multi placement between Newnan and Cartersville here in Atlanta. You sound more burned out with patient care than anything I can ascertain. I could be wrong, but you can correct me. I'm not offended.

I'very found that some recruiters don't even realize that a NP has to specialize and I can't just change my mind and do orthopedics. One other recruiter didn't know you had to have a Master's degree to become board certified and that you need a bachelor's degree before a master's degree. Thank goodness I already have a job....

Pray.
Check with hospital clinics. Many are using NP,s
