Not fitting in

I worked for this awesome carefacility company for a few days and loved it. But then suddenly i was let go, because i didnt fit in as they put it. I am seeing this more and more. I am over 55 and struggling to work to make ends meet. The thing is you do your job, follow the job description to the letter, make every client happy and then pow Why is this.

I have had this happen to me also. I am a very hard worker. I learn the correct ways to do what the bosses expect. I am always reliable not only to arrive to work on time, but to pick up shifts and to perform to the specs of my assigned duties. I am also complimented OFTEN by the owners and the managers for my work ethic. So what is the problem? I don't claim to know anybody else's possible reasons for being let go for "not fitting in" but if it helps anyone, I seem to have noticed that in spite of my dedicated service and strong work ethic I do not have an interrest in being "cool" with my coworkers. This could be a number of things like not wanting to get high with them, not wanting to join the verbal bashing of this week's token scapegoat, or even doing what is expected instead the shortcuts the staff uses to be "more productive" (laughable to say the least). So when I have made it known long enough that I am here to do my job, and do it well I am inevitably informed I have been let go for "not fitting in" I wish there was a better answer but this the only one I can think of. Any solutions to prevent this from happening would require me to not care about my job, be okay speaking behind the backs of others like a coward, and partaking in after-work parties when I have a family waiting for me at home. If I could somehow become okay with adopting this piss poor work ethic and undignified lifestyle I would surely secure employment much long than I have in the past.

This age discrimination, nothing less. I can't find a job because I'm an English speaking White Male. I'm 55 years old and still no job dispite the fact that I have 4 college degrees so, no, you most definitely are not alone.

I'm sorry that happened to you Stacie. That's really messed up . I'm 52 and I haven't seen that . Maybe it's just that company. Although you liked it , Maybe it's not all that, obviously. Better check elsewhere . Good luck

I honestly think companies have been letting older workers go so that they can hire younger people who will work for less money. I have a friend that works somewhere where they let go a bunch of employees who had been there for a long time, but kept all the younger, newer employees.
