Parts Specialist

I am an experienced Parts Specialist salesman having worked for over 20+ years in heavy duty truck parts. Recently retired (big mistake) because I am not ready for the rocking chair. I need to get back into the work force, however when employers read my resume I get the feeling they imagine an old man with a cane but I'm quite the opposite very active and vibrant. Any suggestions how I can get employers to give me a chance?

Hello Robert I totally understand how you're feeling however if you're retired feel that you need to get back into the working industry in the same one you were before really depends on how long it's been since you've been out of the workforce. If you've been out of the workforce for more than two years HR and recruiters look at you in a different way when you say retired they look at you as an old person who can't and just want something to do leave out the word retired make sure you cover letter hasn't enthusiasm and passion for what you do give no deadlines and where you previously worked. I would also suggest that instead of sending that you go in person to a little homework find out who the hiring people are going in and shake hands and give then your resume that shows you have a genuine interest in the company and they can see for themselves that you're still vibrant prescient and willing to work. Good luck

Great question Robert! Make sure you are including your relevant experience to the jobs you are applying for on your resume. I would also recommend following up on all your applications so you are able to speak with the hiring manager. You can do this by calling the companies or stopping by in person. Hope this helps!
