Unemployed 4- 19 years HELP!!
Hello everyone I have been a stay at home mom for 19 years! And I'm 51 years old! Would love to seek employment again! Can't afford any school! What are the Do's and Dont's in today's world?

Check with local hospitals or nursing homes to see if any of them will pay for OJT for CNA. You may have to work for that facility for a year but it is worth it if you can find one. If you want to work from home check out workersonboard.com they have lots of legitimate work at home jobs.

Look at Customer Service jobs. These are busy jobs with lots of phone calls and noise, exactly what parents go through everyday! There are lots of openings for them and the good companies will provide good training to get you up and receiving calls in a hurry.

Try like working from home, theres Convergys, alpine acsess, apple. I mean if you are comfortable working from home theres also Hilton@home

Hi it sounds like we are in the same boat so I'm going to check into some of the places listed on here myself. First after my kids were all off on their own I cared for my significant other that passed away and left me only his truck thank goodness then cared for my mother for a few years til she passed away I bought a travel trailer with the little bit of money she left me and live in it now in a 55 plus park (I'm 57) I have no health problems and stay very active and I've been to several interviews but no luck on a job so far it's very frustrating to cuz my only income now is 550 a month in back child support owed by my first husband and I spend all the money in gas to go to these interviews when I can't even afford it and then I don't get the job. I enjoyed caring for my mother it brought us so much closer but really don't care to do it for a living but thinkbim gonna have to break down and do it cuz I have lots of experience in the clerical field but can't seem to get a job in that field now I guess due to my age . it's like we are useless now or so they think I don't know about you but I'm ready to start a whole new life again and am inspired but the employeers don't want to give anyone a chance unless they are young and glamorous is how I feel anymore. I wish you luck you a bit younger than me and hopefully not a widow yet so maybe it will happen for you I hope so prayers too you miz pinky

Hi Pinky, I would suggest you create a resume listing all the skills you possess. Even though you haven't had a formal job I'm sure you have many skills you have perfected over the years that can transfer to the workplace such as organization, time management, problem solving and so on. also list the skills referencing your admin/office experience. List any volunteer service you have provided over the years and list as you would a job example (kid's school activities, sports or clubs) Create a profile here on jobcase and start with your proper name so potential employers can view it. The work force is very competitive and I'm sure you can find work but you are going to have to put a great deal of effort into it. You need to come across as very serious and professional. Start with entry level jobs in admin or customer service. If you don't mind retail that's also a good place to look. Walmart, Foreman Mills, Burlington just o name a few are pretty easy to get in if they are hiring. If you need help with the resume inbox me I'd be glad to help.

Back in my Day 1980's I was a Receptionist mainly answering a 20 line phone system between 3 companies making copies, distribution of mail, minor Data entry Unfortunately Typing is not good maybe 30 wpm, thank goodness my 2 jobs didn't require me to type (Data entry) I'm wondering in today's WORLD a lot of places require Degrees (I do not have)
Thank you all any information is greatly appreciated

Also find a headhunter that will work with you and give advice
Try not to give out your age. I have found it very difficult to find a full time job after 50.
