Nope not crazy
I am a classically trained chef, but my restaurant just cut my hours significantly. I needed a job quick because my wife is due to have our first child in a few months. We also just bought a house so money is pretty tight. I took a job at Sonic. Wondering what other chefs are here. I didn't want to commit to another restaurant as mine wouldn't like that. They NEVER want you to moonlight at another fine dining establishment and would probably fire me if they found out. I figured this would be the least threatening. I have heard good things and I start next week. So here I go...
Good for you Hunter! Having worked in restaurants myself I totally understand that one might not want you to work for another. That was the case even with waitressing, I can't imagine being a chef. They might be nervous you would share recipes. The restaurant business is an interesting place. It's good you were able to also work at Sonic!
I don't think there is anything wrong with you working at Sonic especially if you say you like it. I have always had a good experience there.
Good Luck Hunter! Did you sign an exclusivity agreement with your "day job" that prevents you from working in another/different fine dining restaurant or that binds you by contract to only work at one establishment for a certain time period? If not, I would start applying elsewhere so you don't have the hassle of trying to balance 2 jobs. I hope it works out for you!

I've learned that loyalty gets you nowhere in the cooking industry. Unless you own your own restaurant your going to have issues. My advise is take what you can and be loyal to yourself and your new baby . Good luck
